tube amp noise
Ron from McIntosh recommended I remove my power conditioner and plug it straight to the wall outlet and surprisingly this seemed to have mitigated the problem noticeably. Not sure if it's the power conditioner or other components I had plugged to ...
tube amp noise
Thanks for all the advices. This amp weighs 110 lbs with box so want to go over all possibilities before I take it in. For now, I think I can live with it given I have 2 more years of warranty and can take it in if it gets worse.I don't think it's...
Dac's? anyone tried the new Cambridge Dacmagic-B
I'm using it with Squeezebox and it's a huge improvement over squeezebox DAC and sounds nearly as good as my Rega Apollo. Very neutral which may make it sound bit detached which is a good contrast to my Apollo which tends to be bit too warm at tim...

Martykl and Detlof thanks for your suggestions. I probably will get the SMS-1 in the near future. In the meanwhile, I took your advices Detlof and used one of Charlie Hadyn's deep bass CD's to find the optimal position for the sub. I also used Gra...
What should I get for my first audio system?
Not sure if you got your system already but 50w on Decco is plenty enough. I also live in NYC and I have never had the need to put the volume dial more than 1/4 way and that's on 84 sensitivity speakers. I would recommend getting monitors as they ...
B&W CM7s paired with Decco
I have B&W CM1 with Decco and you really can't go wrong with it. It's the most bang/buck audio product I've purchased and the quality is as good as $2000 amp and the built in DAC is superb.

Actually I do own a 1945 5'7" Steinway "M" rebuilt with new soundboard and renner action. However, the source is pretty poor and extremely rusty :) Happy holidays!

Well I got a Velodyne Optimum 8 subwoofer today. I'm having bit difficulty seamlessly incorporating it. I can either turn MA2275 bass control (-12 db at 100hz) down and cross over at 100 hz or just try crossing over at lower frequency ~65 hz. Any ...
How to reproduce sound of piano
So it appears getting the right subwoofer is absolutely critical first step in this endeavor. I find that ironic given many classical enthusiast probably consider bass the least important characteristic when selecting speakers. I up to now thought...

As a side note, I forgot to mention that my Grados GS-1000 headphones actually does very good job with piano (much better than speakers). Right now, I listen to most piano works on my headphones. But given it's a can, it lacks soundstage and the m...
best small room 2 channel set up for under $2ooo
I highly recommend looking at Peachtree Audio Decco integrated hybrid amp with built in DAC. It's only $799 in black (musicdirect.com). It sounds top notch and DAC is excellent. Just get a cheap CD/DVD transport and you are set with amp and source...

Wow thanks for all the responses. It appears that the task is much more daunting than I imagined, but that makes this hobby the more exciting. FYI, my current system is in my condo but I'm planning to build a dedicated listening area in my weekend...
hearing imbalance
Well, it seems like it was impacted ear wax from probably using q-tips. I used over counter ear wax remover and it did wonders to improve my hearing on the right ear. Thanks for all the feedbacks.

Dog or man thanks for your advice. I will try a few acoustical treatments and just enjoy music for now.
