I Have 100K for Speakers?
I don't think there is anything wrong with spending 100K on speakers if you have the money and you get 100k sound - even in terms of diminishing returns; I just don't think you need to spend that to get the best sound available with variations for...
Designer Hall of Fame
Yes indeed, one of the greats.
I Have 100K for Speakers?
Yoou can easily find SOTA speakers for 30k or considerably less; the rest is vanity.
how does rogue zeus compare cat or atma-sphere?
It might be hard to come by someone with this particular audition. I doubt many CAT owners would consider Rogue as an alternative to replace their CATs (not that the Rogue might not in fact be a giant killer - and I do agree with Oem's comment).
I Have 100K for Speakers?
It gets silly when you are new to the hobby and are thinking of spending 50-100K on speakers. Great systems come from experience - throwing money at building a system often ends up in very dissapointing results. I rememeber a fellow who knew nothi...
Which Herbie's Product is Best?
In my case, Steve recommended Tenderfeet for my transport and DAC, and Iso Cups for my Pre and Amp - I think it was an SS versus tube consideration.
Which Herbie's Product is Best?
3 is proabably more stable.
Tube amps vs solid state for large speakers
I would think with those specs and assuming a smooth impedance curve that 60 tube watts would be plenty of power to drive them as loud as I would ever want to hear them. That of course opens up a much wider selection of choices - though I could ha...
Choice on a $3,000 to $5,000 SS amp
Well, I think at this point there will not be a narrowing down, assuming that is what you want to do. In the realm of SS, it is pretty hard to beat Pass, Ayre, SIM, and Plinius in your price range, though beyond on that there are certainly some ad...
Best Speakers to match Ayre V-1xe and K-1xe
Is there any good speaker that doesn't sound good with Ayre? proabably not. Although I suspect they would be less than optimal with underdamped speakers; aren't all their designs NFB? I know they sound superb with Merlin VSMs, but it seems like yo...
Choice on a $3,000 to $5,000 SS amp
Garebear, have enough feedback?
anyone try placette passive with dartzeel amp?
Yes he did. Apparently he felt it was an extremely good combination.
Choice on a $3,000 to $5,000 SS amp
how many watts do you need? If 30 is enough, I doubt there is any ss better than Pass XA30.5 or used XA60s. Although Ayre would certainly be on my short list.
Better than a CAT?
The SEs were also built back then, but are all point-to-point wiring (the RM9 MKI and IIs had a board for the input stage) and use six 6bq7s in the driver stage, versus 4 6922s. I'm not sure what other tinkering Roger may have done. If I sell the ...
Better than a CAT?
Interesting. I too recently bought an Music Reference RM9 SE, so I think Roger only has a handful left.
