| Any Large Acoustic Suspension Speakers Being Made? If you have the room you might consider checking the ads here from time to time, used Duntech Sovereigns/Princesses and Dunlavys show up from time to time. While I sold my Princesses after about 15 years with them, I still have a soft spot in my ... | |
| Newbee help- Volume low even at full preamp volume-??? Wait--phono OUT from preamp? You mean you're running the TT into the MC input of the phono stage, and the phono stage into an input of the preamp, right? | |
| Newbee help- Volume low even at full preamp volume-??? Agree with griffithds and jmcgrogan2, check to make sure you're using the right input and switch out the tubes. I think that using the 12AX7 tubes as suggested above will help, as 50 db of gain from the 12AU7s might not be enough for your cartridge. | |
| Any Large Acoustic Suspension Speakers Being Made? One thing about the Dunlavys (and the Duntechs that preceded them) that is very important to some people is that they use first order crossover slopes, and also that the drivers were staggered to be time-coherent. Not that many speaker manufactu... | |
| Vintage Krell Amp... Which would you choose? That might be enough, but I still prefer models other than the "S" series. They might have been more neutral than the KSA250/MDA 300 amps, but to me they sounded almost sterile, lifeless in comparison. Guess I'm a fan of distortion. | |
| Magnetic RCA adaptors: Latest snake oil? Mreddy--re-read the article. The incident you're referring to is stated in the article to have taken place 7 or 8 years earlier. Dudley was raising the possibility that something similar was in play in this case, that his system might not be opt... | |
| Vintage Krell Amp... Which would you choose? Dsper: I admit to not being a fan of the "S" series of Krell amps, which were the first to use the sustained plateau biasing technology. I feel the earlier KSA 250 was far better sounding than any of the S series, and that the FPB series were al... | |
| Magnetic RCA adaptors: Latest snake oil? Again, I suggest reading Dudley's article, it includes a description of Ric Schultz's design and what he claims it does. While it made things worse in Art's system, he didn't discount that it might work in other systems. | |
| Most achingly-beautiful music Thanks for the link, Stan. Fits the thread's name perfectly. | |
| Thoughts on replacing caps in 30 year old speakers Sure, there's always room for improvement in any commercial design, but keep the old parts in case you don't like the sound. It will sound different, not necessarily better. | |
| Magnetic RCA adaptors: Latest snake oil? Read Art Dudley's piece on them in this month's Stereophile. Didn't seem to work with his system, possibly because of transformers in his preamp. | |
| The Golden age You want the new "old" Krell, check out the amps from Bully Sound Company. | |
| Opinions Needed! I had the same question as tls49. I would not expect an amplifier change to affect the bass, as the woofers for the bass are powered by their own amp. I do sympathize with the cost of tubes, though, especially given your high usage of the system.... | |
| Where R U????? I have moved, now retired in Williamsburg, VA. | |
| WHICH IS BETTER? In terms of the Purist line, Dominus was the top of the line; Colossus was below it, as far as the company was concerned. As to which is better in your system, you would really have to hear them in your system to make a decision, it could be that... |
