Sony scd 777 es problems
It's possible Richard Kern did the mods; I don't know if he is still around to repair the units.
Question for serious Siltech users
Can't comment on the Silver Anniversary cables, but all the Siltech cables I have used (principally the Compass Lake ones, admittedly expensive) were very smooth and natural in the highs. My problem with them in my system was that they were just a...
What brand is most recognized by non-audiophiles?
B&W, McIntosh, Marantz would seem to be three that non-audiophiles would recognize.
Personal amp evolution
Updating further. After 10 years with the Lamms, when I moved to a new home with a much smaller listening room I decided to downsize (principally in the number of pieces) my system. I sold the Lamms and replaced them with a single stereo amp, the ...
Tube amps that kick ass?
Add me to the recommendations for VAC amps. I have a Phi 200 and have barely had it break a sweat in my small room driving Nola Micro References, which are not a particularly easy load. It has all the power and bass control you could ask for, whil...
Tube Dealer Recommendation
I have bought many tubes from Andy Bouwman (VTS). His tubes are the real deal, and his knowledge of tubes is enormous. You pay a bit more, but you get what you pay for.
Entry Level Tube Integrated
In addition to the Cayin, I'd suggest auditioning the PrimaLuna integrated amps. I heard one a few weeks ago in a dealer's showroom and was very impressed.
EXPERIENCED VAC USERS—most bang for the buck
I own the Phi 200, which I use happily with a Shindo Monbrisson preamp. My vote, aside from asking Kevin, would be to get the Phi 200 with the Signature II-A. The better the source it is fed, the better the Phi 200 sounds. My $.02.
Wilson Sophia 2 or WP 6 ?
The Sophia is by far the more forgiving of the two speakers. You're equipment is well up to the task of working with either speaker, but on less-than-well recorded material the Sophia probably will sound more listenable, especially in the treble. ...
Whats on your turntable tonight?
Britten, Simple Symphony--English Music for Strings. Britten cond./English Chamber Orchestra; King Super Analog Disc (reissue of a 1968 London/Decca recording). As seems to be the case with most of the King reissues, the sound seems tilted towards...
Humor In Music
In the classical world, anything by Professor Peter Schickele in his PDQ Bach albums.
Oh, the frustrations of the speaker search
Wait till you see what happens when you hear them in your room, as room acoustics will also have a strong effect on the performance of a speaker!
Wanted,Virtual Dynamics power cables.
I suggest you post this in a wanted to buy ad, not in the forums.
About the new LSC reissues by Analogue Productions
While I'm sure Acoustic Sounds will do a good job on these reissues, I think I have enough originals and CR reissues to satisfy me for what's left of my lifetime. Don't see why we need a new set of reissues of this series at this point.
Are 45rpms worth the price?
Agree with Viridian, particularly with respect to classical recordings. I particularly am bothered with recordings that split a movement across two sides; sort of reminds me of my old 8-track player. But with recordings of shorter, distinct pieces...
