Experience with FREDs in a tube amp PS
OH(BTW)- No soft-start. I can tell by what my lights do when I turn the amps on.

Those Crees do really look interesting. A bridge of four TO-247's (1.2kV/10A) would take up a bit of space though. The 5A package(TO-220) is only slightly smaller, and I'd really like to have heatsinks on them. This is obviouly going to have to wa...
Burn in question and evaluation before burn in
Mr W- I've had passive and active components that went through 4 or 5 changes in presentation before reaching stabilization. Some sounded ridiculous at times. Be patient(at least 200 hrs) before listening critically, and deciding whether you like ...
Burn in question and evaluation before burn in
Right on the money Albert! And any good designer will voice his equipment with the presentation of the components AFTER stabilization in mind. Hopefully- transparency will be their goal.

Transparency and dynamics are what I'm hoping for. I've got a pair of Cary SLM-100s that I'm thinking of tweaking slightly. The B+ right after the rectifier is 488V, and I was thinking of going with an IXYS 1200V bridge to handle turn on surge. I'...
Another Cable Burn-in Question
A passive component(in this case generally an attenuator) does not change it's impedance value when the equipment in which it's installed is turned either on or off. The CDP or DAC output will never see a "virtually open circuit". Just put an ohme...
Crossover upgrade capacitor question
Keep in mind: If you replace the caps, the higher the quality, probably- the longer the burn-in. They may sound absolutely raunchy at first(been there). Polypropylene/polystyrene may take 200hrs and Teflon caps 400+ before they reach their target ...
Crossover upgrade capacitor question
As long as you are certain the two 8's are paralleled, and you replace them with the same voltage rating in a 16uF: You should experience no problem. The value/replacement will be exact.

I do SO wish I could balance their DB levels!! =8^(
CD has laid back and uninvolving sound
Teajay- I didn't want to press the issue, given his negative reaction to the suggestions made. But, AMEN!! The correct NOS tubes(and other mentioned tweaks) can/will/would have a profound impact regarding the sound qualities he's seeking. Well- At...

Yep- That's what we thought!
rca plugs - comparisons?
Stick with Wonder Solder UltraClear or WBT's Solder also.

Dazzdax- If you've never read this article in Stereophile, it may give you some insights as to what's missing. (http://www.stereophile.com/reference/23/index.html) If your system delivers the dynamics you enjoy via vinyl, you may need to address y...
New Fuse Thread . . .
Who had that special going? Thanks, in advance, for the info!

I usually try to do what nine out of ten of the voices in my head tell me....... I'd better go listen to some music! =8^)
