Is the Townshend Rock 7 "the" giant killer? I love my Rock, but haven't compared it to higher dollar tables. I did A/B it with the other giant killer table that is getting much love: the Well Tempered Amadeus. You can see a thread with my impressions here: http://www.audiocircle.com/index.p...
Rebuilt Ortofon A90? If the cart is working properly and the issue is only the diamond, my question would be whether or not a SoundSmith retip might not be a more cost-effective option?
Arm and cartridge for Brinkmann Balance I would add the Moerch DP-8 to your list. Spectacular bass, and detail retrieval. An added advantage of the Moerch line is the exchangeable armwands, which can be ordered for different effective masses. This makes it easy to run many many types of...
Floorstanders 3K And Duke didn't mention them, but his Audiokinesis speakers would be another good choice.
is an ortofon mc-3 turbo too light for traveler? According to the Vinyl Engine Cartridge databaes, you are in the green. A great tool:http://www.vinylengine.com/cartridge_database.phpYour cart:http://www.vinylengine.com/cartridge_resonance_evaluator_results.php?m=Ortofon+MC%203%20Turbo&cm=4....
Novice needs Mac Mini and DAC advice You do have a number of great options out there. Do you need multiple digital inputs or will this be USB only?
Some Axpona thoughts The detail and speed on those YG's I heard (the silver pair) was incredible. But I worried that they might be a bit fatiguing to listen to for long stretches of time. Technically amazing, but also quite in your face when I listened to them. They d...
I wanna rock -- with monitors on stands I second the recommendations of both the Joseph Audio Pulsars, and getting active ATCs. Both great choices for what you are looking for. I also have a pair of SP Tech Minis that I would put in that category, but they are no longer being made and d...
Vandersteen 2CE Vs. Von Schweikert VR-2100 I'd be sure to listen to Vandys with rock. I think that this description from another forum captures Vandy 2CEs well (I have only head them briefly in less than ideal settings):"Vandy's are the epitome of "laid back." I've found through the years ...
Phono preamp comparison/Pass,Herron,Avid Seems likely you would be able to hear all three. Do that.
Help me pick some speakers Good bass will be the tricky part of sub-$1000 speakers.
Decent DAC with Real Remote Check out the DSPeaker Dual Core 2.0. Very versatile unit. A remote, a DAC, DSP (automatic with enclosed mic up to 500Hz), volume control (if desired), A/D/A (for DSP of an analog signal). A huge fan. Tweek Geek also had audition and return polici...
Phono preamp comparison/Pass,Herron,Avid I would find a way to audition in your home for pieces in this price range. If your local dealer doesn't have anything you can demo there are certainly dealers of these products online that have excellent return policies. Music Direct for AVID (an...
Whats my weak link? If you try power cords, get some from somewhere with a good return policy or for a dealer thatets you audition them. Heck, good advice for most gear. But the DAC is what came to my mind first.
Anyone try KT 120 Tubes in Primaluna Dialogue? No experience with them in a Primaluna, but like them in my Rogue Stereo 90. Your Lores are mighty efficient so I don't see the KT-120s necessary from a power perspective, more a case of how they affect the sonics at low output levels. |
