how much better is the kuzma 4 point then my TTW Jelco
The Jelco  (at least in TTW guise) does have an azimuth adjustable head shell.  The AVRO is a step up from a standard Jelco, but it's not as good as a 4 point or a Phantom.
Ayon measurements
Which amps?  Ayon makes both PP and SET, both types with differing output tubes.  So measurements for one amp won't correlate against another.  Google the crossfire III; there was a German review that I believe included measurements.  But please d...
Ayon, are there too many ads out there?
I think you need to separate Ayon - the manufacturer, from AyonUSA - the US distributor located in Arizona, from USAtubes - the retailer, also located (surprise, surprise) next door to AyonUSA. The retailer is running these ads, hyping the product...
Any Herron VTPH-2 Phono Stage Owners out there?
From what I remember, the VTPH2 has 2 sets of inputs - 1 for mm and 1 for mc. You can tie an external SUT into the MM (47K) input without issue. Also, regarding the MC impedance, Keith is an advocate of "infinite" loading. I believe the natural in...
Describe ube sound vs solid state
Unsound, while you are technically correct I'll bet you can't identify the colorations / response deviations while listening to music.
User manual for a Joule Electra LA-100 MKIII
I have a manual (paper copy) for the MkIII, and I've replaced the tubes as well. There are no bias instructions in the manual, the tubes are all self biased, according to what Judd told me years ago.
Conrad Johnson PV-1
The PV1 was cj's first product. I never sold them - we picked up the line with the PV2, but I have played with a few of the units. It's a little noisy and a little bandwidth limited. For the time it was a great pre, but has been superceded many ti...
Question regarding reputation of SOTA tables
Chas, I used to sell Sota during the '80s and '90s. I agree, they didn't always float my boat either. But the new owners of Sota have made a number of mods to the tables since then and I beleive they have addressed many (if not all) of the earlier...
Question regarding reputation of SOTA tables
Exactly how have the SOTAs been superceded? They were innovative at the time (saphire thrust plate, inverted bearing, easily tuned suspension), but it's only been recently that other manufacturers have caught up. What makes them "so '80's?"
Sprung vs Unsprung VPI Turntables.
I'd be suspicious of any dealer making the claims you are stating. As I understand it, quality acrylic in sizes needed for large platters (2+ inches deep) is getting hard to find. So VPI's change to aluminum has more to do with materials availabil...
DaVinci tonearm and azymuth
Actually the Graham "level" does have some value, but not for azymuth, which is an axial tilt function. The true value is as a reference when jumping between different thicknesses of pressings. If you set the level for a 120g pressing and then adj...
Art Dudley Listening - Stereophile Dec '09 Nordost
Actually, if you look at what was used, it does make perfect sense. The speaker cables and ICs were both TYR - the 3rd series from the top - Odin, Valhalla, TYR. The Vishnu power cable is 4th from the top - Odin, Valhalla, Brahma, Vishnu. So there...
Has anyone heard the VPI Classic yet
Given that the Raven under discussion used a Phantom arm and the copper platter (don't remember if there was a mat involved), how do you think the comparison would fare if the Classic was modified? It's been a long time since I listened to an all a...
Da Vinci AAS Gabriel
Dgad, are you thinking of Silent Running? I beleive Kevin Tellekamp (sp?) has been working with TW to create a solution.
Graham Phantom vs. Phantom II
I agree that the micropoise is a good idea, but I wonder why Bob didn't put it on the bearing cap so that you could level across all angles. THAT would have been far more valuable.
