Loudspeakers that go LOUD?
If you like what you've already got, then keep it. By adding an electronic crossover and a sub ( or subs ), you can get the best of both worlds. You not only take the strain off of both the amp and the speakers by limiting their low frequency band...
I hope break in is true
Capt: It's not that the disc is "too powerful" for any specific speaker or system, it's that it contains a high quantity of both very high and very low frequency information. So long as you keep the volume down, you shouldn't have any problems. Ju...
I hope break in is true
This disc simply consists of several different wide-bandwidth, high average power signals. It shouldn't hurt a line level tube any more than it would a transistor. As to the cabling, you've got to use some type of "cable cooker", whether it is a c...
Do you know anyone who repairs Chiro amps?
"Sean" has enough of his own gear to work on. As it is, i have two Kinergetics amps that i'm already working on : ) Sean>
Burn in question
If you continually use just one or a very few inputs over a period of time, try taking one of your source components that you use all the time and connecting it to one of the unused inputs. Let your ears tell you if there is a difference in sonics...
I hope break in is true
Fishboat: Your comments and observations are very consistent with those that i've noticed, along with others that i've talked to / shared this disc with. If you can, i would give it another week or so using the same routine. After about two weeks,...
Open Baffle Speakers
There are quite a few variations that one can run into when discussing "open baffle" designs. Most all of them will lack bass extension and impact due to the cancellation that takes place, especially at low frequencies. This is a generalization, b...
Can tube preamps be as 'detailed' sounding as ss?
Atmasphere: My mistake in not choosing my wording more carefully. I know that tubes themselves are VERY broadband in nature with the absolute bandwidth being circuit dependent. It is this lack of circuit bandwidth and / or power supply limitations...
Can tube preamps be as 'detailed' sounding as ss?
Atmasphere: Most tubes go into "soft clipping" ( rounded edges ) because they don't have the necessary speed / bandwidth to reproduce the sharp edges that make up a heavily clipped sine wave aka a square wave. Then again, i'm not telling you anyth...
Can tube preamps be as 'detailed' sounding as ss?
Tubed circuits can be very fast and wide bandwidth. That is, IF they are built to do so. SS circuits can be very fast and wide bandwidth. That is, IF they are built to do so. As such, it boils down more to the goals and approach that the designer ...
a simple yet stupid ? question
Higher volumes require greater voltage and current, which in turn causes greater thermal rise and stress. As far as different "phases" of break-in go, there is only one that takes place. This may take a day or two of extreme use or a very extended...
DIY Interconnects review
Dbld: Very few components ( i really don't know of ANY in specific ) will work best with a high capacitance interconnect. Having said that, one can use a high capacitance interconnect to tame top end brightness and / or to tailor the response to o...
DIY Interconnects review
Gregm: Changing the spacing between conductors alters the nominal impedance. The further the gap between the conductors, the higher the nominal impedance. While a higher nominal impedance can act as a "buffer" to the source component loading into ...
I hope break in is true
Music Direct does stock these discs. If you are open to doing business with them, call and ask for Bes : )As previously mentioned, the Ayre disc has several seconds of silence at the beginings of tracks 1 & 7. Do NOT crank up your volume think...
I hope break in is true
My experience is that this type of disc can benefit components at line level along with those operating at amplifier output / speaker level. As mentioned, i've used this on digital sources without signal making it to the speakers and i've always b...
