Is analog & vinyl anoying? Is it worht it.
Tvad,I don't question your observation but it begs the question why shouldn't a brand new CD play properly from the get go?Did you try other CDR's - like the clear silver ones that look more like regular CD's ( at least superficially)
Vinyl Outselling CD
Is this true? If it is it is fantastic news. There is nothing like competition to improve quality and pop CD quality has been lousy lately...1980's pop Vinyl sounds a lot better than much of the compressed pop CD's of today!
Is analog & vinyl anoying? Is it worht it.
Eldartford,Actually I just answered my own question on the last post. So I thought I would share it.Cross-Interleaved Reed Solomon Coding It states INTERPOLATION: If a major error occurs and a sample cannot be perfectly reconstructed by the error ...

Eldartford, 04-18-07: EldartfordI really question the need to clean CDs. I agree with you. However my personal experience with CD rot did leave my faith in the robustness of CD's slightly shaken. (CD rot is pitting damage occuring on the silver CD...
Turntable Pre-Echo Sound....?
are you sure that it continues throught the record or is it lmited to certain areas on the LP? Yes it must do. It is a physical limitation of the way LP's are cut. LP = Long Play = some compromises are naturally required to get that extra music c...
Speakers with imaging "Free of the box"
The Bose Acoutimass 5's did a great job of disappearing. Unfortunately there were many other reasons these were not great audiophile speakers; timbre, power handling, distortion, frequency response, transient response etc.(especially in the sub wh...
Speakers with imaging "Free of the box"
I assume you mean they disappear. A mid and tweeter effect from reducing any edge diffraction that may localize the sound.I find that tall narrow speakers (less than 8 inches), and small box designs (like satellites) often disappear most easily, a...
Break in period
Paul,My point was that audio engineers design things to sound consistent and significant audible changes ascribed to lengthy burn-ins (after months of listening) is not very desirable. If I understand you and others, you are saying that this has n...
How is more than 16 bits better for CD?
but, to answer the original question, if it's just a 24 bit DAC, and it does not upsample the data, then the last 8 bits will just be filled in with zeroes, as Aball mentioned in the first reply. Exactly. Thanks to Jason for clarifying completely...
Can you correct nulls with acoustic treatments.
Jim,The Maggies should still respond to the same physics in the bass as Genelec describes, however, they radiate front and back in ALL frequencies (not just the LF below 500 Hz) and, therefore it will be recommended to have them as far out as poss...
low vs high gain
Whatever works best with the preamp (allows you to play softly and loudly).
How do you determine how much to spend on speakers
I'm with Uraniumcommitte's 1/2 to 2/3 of total component spend, as a rough rule of thumb for speakers/sub (excluding room treatments and very small rooms). Distortion figures for speakers often make them the weakest link in the chain.
Break in period
I am rather enjoying your astute game Glad to here it. This hobby should be enjoyed! These forums are consistently bombarded by fears of significant detrimental effects on the sound quality; (jitter, cables, break-in, warm-up, house electrical wir...
VSA VR4 jr's with Bryston mono's?
Nice amp! I agree with Cyctocycle that clean power is usually never a problem except in a ridiculous mismatch. However, if you are looking for a significantly louder more dynamic sound then you won't get much extra by exceeding your speaker rating...
Break in period
Dopogue says, Shadorne has missed few opportunities (in the related posts I've seen) to repeat his break-in-is-all-in-the-mind nonsense It is your prerogative to believe that it is all nonsense.Dopogue adds, It clearly takes a lot to penetrate HIS...
