Using a 220v amplification equipment in the US
Not worth the trouble IMHO. The extra transformer required and electrical work. It will sound just the same (as it should do). (My stuff did when moved from 220 v to 110 V)
Analog vs. CDP: A fair comparison?
You sound like a collector rather than a user. IMHO go for it! You will get much more fun from a turntable - there is more to play with and all the bits that do the work are externally visible and which you can proudly operate.I know people who do...
Job of Producer versus Recording Engineer
Producer is in charge of the full chain for making the final product and the budget - he or she is contracted by the recorded label or artist. He of she subcontracts the people involved to record and master the music. Producers often have people t...
why can't I make a digital recording of a DVD?
Tvad,I understand how you feel. This is largely the position of the execs at Sony and other major labels. However, as a user, I am frustrated that I bought and own half of Disney's entire collection in VHS, some in PAL and some in NTSC and that I ...
Anyone heard PMC's IB1?
If you have not experienced a dome mid range then be prepared for a surprise. These can go very loud without mid range compression. Effortless sounding and very articulate. Definitely worth auditioning. Telarc (Cleveland USA) bought some PMC's a f...
Speakers that sound good in tight spots?
Most speakers do not like to be placed up against a rear wall. Bass radiates in all directions (front port, rear port or no port still radiate in all directions). These setups give quarter wavelength cancellations (comb filtering) from the rear wa...
Are the Audio Physic Virgo II's ageing well?
I know a friend who has a third hand pair of Virgo IIs - very happy with them. Great image. Don't push them too hard - thats all.
Cable Costs Relative to System
Ojgalli,There is a lot of science behind the claims made on the links you quoted. The problem is that science is not always trusted and fear of missing out on a potential performance improvement continues to drive people to try things.Another thin...
Transformer noise including Powervar
DC offset seems to be a big problem for tranformers especially when driven to saturation. If possible, the best is to unplug the offending device that is feeding DC offset back to the mains (AC or DC motor or another power supply like a chopper po...
member system photos???
Good point. Given the long proven benefits of soffit mounting for speakers and the prevalence of this format at the professional high end, it is astonishing to see audiophiles, spend huge $$$ on all nature of tweaks, whilst ignoring a fundamental ...
How do I know what my system's
Yeah Etbaby has a good point.....either room treatment or a DEQ2496 might do much more than a new amp
Matching the center channel to the fronts
If your seating position is mainly for yourself and rarely a crowd...then by positioning your seat directly in front you can do without a center channel...just get bigger fronts and phantom the center to both fronts and keep fronts relatively clos...
Have you seen the VR9SE Review?
Jtinn,Thanks for pointing out this article. Mike did a fantastic job of describing a wonderful journey to achieveing what must be absolutely amazing sound. I am in awe.Two-thirds of the way through the article, however, I was troubled that all the...
Choosing the right Bryston amp
Put it this way....at high levels and with significant bass material the 3B will clip before getting the most out of your speakers. Clipping is the main cause of speaker failure: bass woofer sucks up too much of the amps power and then (most often...
Choosing the right Bryston amp
IMHO go for more power than you think you will ever need - the bigger amp. On some tracks you will be glad of the extra head room.
