Tastes change with age?
Absolutely. I prefered older women when I was younger and prefer younger women now I am older. 😆
SACD vs. Blu-Ray for audio quality/sonics
@randy-11 There is only so much to configure with the ESS chip. The 8 channels can be used individually or all summed or split into two groups of summed 4 channels. The summation reduces the channel count and increase the implementation cost but i...
Looking for Better Jitter Reduction in a DAC
Harshness could also be your power amp or your speakers.@willemj Higher voltages on line level devices has nothing to do with making louder volumes to sound nice. (although loud does sound nice as you hear more low level detail as it lifts the low...
SACD vs. Blu-Ray for audio quality/sonics
@randy-11 I think the Oppo has two of the 9038 chip - one used for multichannel and the other for stereo.  The noise reduction through random selection of sigma delta 1 bit from a multitude of 1 bit dacs is the standard logic used on this chip.
Best DAC for my situation...Read on!
Dave,I agree. Reasoning is a guide only on how to approach something. Reasoning can get you out of a lot of rabbit holes - For example, why do some DACs sound terrible with one digital cable but better with another. Is it the cable? Is it the DAC?...

@uberwaltz    Check out this plot (Fig 13) why you should always run line level preamp devices north of 12 oclock (when playing loud) and why you should not string multiple preamps together. https://www.stereophile.com/content/benchmark-dac3-hgc-d...
SACD vs. Blu-Ray for audio quality/sonics
@rAndy-11 Yes avoiding brickwall filters helps with passband ripple - this has been the long standing argument for upsampling. However randomization of DAC non-linearity is not well understood. Basically the higher frequency noise in high sample r...
SACD vs. Blu-Ray for audio quality/sonics
@willemj You seem mathematically adept or inclined. Non random Jitter is a big audible problem even in amounts that nobody thought could be audible. In a sense, jitter is a form of timing or clock non-linearity.There is another pernicious form of n...
Time for a change. Need some Advice
You got bad advice. C4 needs more space. You should not be closer than three feet to the back wall - very bad listening position. Diffusion will not help bass which will be bad near a wall. You need something like ATC SCM 25 or 50 in a nearfield co...

Simply Superb speakers. Not so common to find these in Canada even though they had an arrangement with Bryston. This is basically an ATC clone with some tweaks so slightly different presentation. ATC would be the closest sounding if you can auditi...
Room Correction
@bdp24    +1 Very good point. That would be my preferred way to do it.
Best music of 2017
@dougsat +1 Imelda May. Jeff Beck’s Rockabilly buddy Darrel Higham put me on to Imelda May. He liked her so much they are married!I think QOTSA Villains is also really good.
Room Correction
Above all avoid speakers with very narrow dispersion - they have very small sweet spot and never sound natural except in an open space.
Best sounding Hard Rock
Van Halen - in general really good sound qualityy1984 is outstanding - Hot for Teacher is really dynamic - love the double bass triplets and the hertas on the toms... Alex Van Halen is outstanding. Drop Dead Legs sounds great. I think the HD track...
What do you consider the most musical speakers—$15000 & under
@zq1 Dr Floyd Toole studied this conundrum and surprise surprise in blind testing listeners preferred “accurate” speakers, that is those with 1) flat full range even frequency response (no large peaks or troughs)2) even and wide dispersion3) low d...
