| Equipment found at the dump Yup, Lots of stuff gets put out to the trash, the other day my wife was driving not far from the house and she spotted a milk crate full of albums out to the road (52 albums). Most turned out to be near mint and a good many were even in audiophile... | |
| Which basic amps can drive 1 ohm loads ? On the cheap, the Krell Ksa-300s would work very well and that is what I would use (better than the classe). The Ksa-150/250's were also made as mono's...the Ksa-250 becomes the MDA-500 and the Ksa-150 becomes the MDA-300. Both of these come up fo... | |
| Subwoofer, Active Vs. Passive I made the post on the amp quality. My post was in regard to subs with balanced inputs, I stated that most amp quality in active subs was about $80 and that many active subs have very short warranty on the sub amp. These statements are true in mos... | |
| Subs with balanced inputs? One of the reasons you don't see very many is the quality of most amps in active subs is about $80. A great many of them come with very short warranty on the sub amp.Dave | |
| Which basic amps can drive 1 ohm loads ? My Krell Ksa-250 will drive a 1 ohm load, it's rated at 2000 watts per channel@1 ohm. As a matter of fact I am looking for a pair of large Apogees in the near future, I have a pair of small Apogees now and have caught the Apogee bug it seems.Dave | |
| Where is my weakest link? Take a spl meter and test cd and get some readings before you spend a bunch of money, place the speakers for best bass responce and tweak from there. Marakanetz may have your answer if that does not work.Dave | |
| Which recording best highlites your speakers?? This week, (I change setups often)Alison KraussDiana KrallNatalie ColePatricia BarberSpeaker setup of the week is: Apogee centaur minors for mains with three Vmps subs. All recordings are sacd's.Dave | |
| Do you own the last amp you'll ever buy? My systems are always based around the speaker system, if I make a speaker change..then I must sometimes make an amp change. I never search out the "Holy Grail", I've been snipe hunting as a young boy. Speaker change in my systems are at around 5-... | |
| Decent SACD? The Sony won't be outperformed by any dedicated player I have listened to at its $2,000 (New) price point. But...I say that because I like it's laidback sound, if you like a player that is forward sounding then those players are on the market also... | |
| Decent SACD? I have a Sony XA-777es sacd player thats pretty good redbook player (I never feel like I'm missing anything). It's sacd playback is one of the best. It can be had in your price range. It also does sacd multichannel as good as any.Dave | |
| And we strive for..... what ? Ikarus, by musical tastes I ment that you may play the types of music that does not often use all these types of tricks as pop, rock, new age, electronica types of music do and would maybe be less aware. You seemed to be surprised by all this dopi... | |
| Downloading music from Internet --Pro's/Con's? Thanks for the info. Episteme, I'm gonna check the quality of these. Are these the same type of files being used by all the pay for music download sites?Dave | |
| Downloading music from Internet --Pro's/Con's? Nope, they would have to let you download the song as a wav file to be close. An Mp3 can not be as good if that is what they have to sell.Dave | |
| Bookshelf vs. Floorstand I would go with two smaller sub as apposed to one larger in your room, this will give you better bass responce once they are dialed in. If that cost is to high then I would go with a much larger floorstander that has true deep bass without a sub.Dave |
