Upgrade to Simaudio or keep my Classe?
I once owned both of these...Classé sounded warmer and refined, Sim: quicker, and more spectacular on short litening runs, but also dry and not involving musically speaking, listening fatiques comes quite early once the initial ''wow-have-you-hear...
Moon Nova or Eclipse?
Hello,I am a past owner of two SIM I-5 integrateds ( didn't learn the first time around) and I honestly feel that this ''house sound'' that the SIM have is faulty to begin with. I tried desperately to match the I-5 with a host of speakers and cd p...
Which artists do you just NOW get?
I used to not being able to stand Frank Sinatra and Harry Belafonte....a few years ago, I purchased the Carnegie Hall Belafonte concert and following that the Sinatra at the SANDS cd. Holy cow, these guys were great....
Which artists do you just not get?
Diana Krall, she cannot hold a sound for more that 3 seconds...really gets on my nerves. Furthermore, all photos of her (and her Ads for Chrysler) are trying to make her look like a feminine, sexy woman. Pardon my expression, but, I think she has ...
Frank Sinatra at The Sands-Live........
I own the cd-version of this Sinatra release, pretty good, even in cd form. As for tony Bennet, try the SACD version of his Unplugged recording...pretty nice vocals and sonics !
How does one get off the merry-go-round?
Hard answer to find, and it is mostly personal for most. I am willing to share mine. I used to have 15K speakers, 3K preamp, 5K amplifier and so on....total cost of system around 25K. I downgraded with a smile, although I do admit that the smile c...

The Shortest Time you kept a new piece for ??
Come to think of it, I did purchase a Magnum Dynalab MD-208 ''Class A'' Recommended component. It apparently had a super tuner AND a top notch electronics amp by Sim Audio. Turns out this ''Class A'' item had the lower economy Celeste parts from S...
Best Values and worst values in SS and tube amps ?
In this audio world of $ 2,000.00 interconnects, $ 4,000 cartriges, and $ 10,000 room treatment equipment, not counting the expensive tweaking toys, this is an expensive hobby, and the opportunity for spending money in a less-than-wise manner abou...
Ok this will be a good thread.
This ones easy. In order of priority:1. A bottle of Murine to clean your ears 2. Speakers! Which sound better? A ordinary speaker driven by a Mark Levinson? or an EXTRAORDINARY speaker driven by a NAD 3020 and a good source?
Which SS amps sound like a tube amp?
You must ABSOLUTELY give a listen to amplification by Electrocompaniet, the ''tubiest'' solid state in my opinion ! Even if it means not getting up there in the 200 watts range!
Best Values and worst values in SS and tube amps ?
Just for the record, I don't think Aronov are bad amplifiers. It's just that in my humble opinion they are not as good value as others. On the value ladder, it's just that the top rungs dot not belong to the Aronov. My personnal experience with th...
Best Values and worst values in SS and tube amps ?
OK, some explanations from the Thread initiator!!!I guess I am being somewhat critized here for my immensely personnal biases. Fair enough. This thread is intended for the Audiogoner with the following profile. And in my book this means (again, hi...

Transport Recommendations Please.
No question that the S7700 should outclass the Rega as a transport, because of the superiority of the DVD tacking and the copper-clad tank-like build. Not even close.cheers!
