Fatigue Subjective???
Listener fatigue is very real but can be more on the subconscious level. But beware of both sides of the coin. There's a fine line between amps that provide so much detail leading to an overly bright sound and amps that veil, smear, and roll off th...
Amplifier Upgrade advice ?
Sell the Nak.Take a look at the Odyssey Stratos amps and their reviews at odysseyaudio.com. You can order a pair of mono blocks for $2k. They are powerful and very fast amps. And they are rated far above many so-called 'hi-fi' big name amps. Not t...
Bi-wire Clarification
I've tried bi-wiring a handful of times in the past without noticing any difference but in each case the system was very different from the previous times I've tried. Most recent (about a year ago) included the Acoustic Zen Satori shotgun dual run...
Best Acoustically Untreated Room You Have Heard?
It just so happens that my forty-two year old family room is among the best I've heard acoustically. We bought the house 4 years ago and I've had 4 completely different systems in that room ranging from about $4k to $32k retail. Each system had a ...
I need help choosing a power conditioner.
At that price break, I would forego any power conditioner as it may offer little or no benefit and may actually worsen the sonics. If you bought a $300 lc for $150, then that could be better. And by all means try to borrow a high quality line condi...
Power Cable or Power Conditioner?
9rw, Nrchy already pointed out that cheap power conditioners will sound bad and he is right. You then use his qualified statement as proof for your unqualified statement that 'Most' power conditioners mess up the sound. Sorry, but you are simply w...
Power Cable or Power Conditioner?
You might consider getting rid of your power cords altogether and purchase in-line power conditioners for each component.A good or better power conditioner will almost always will provide better soundstaging, sibilants, and lowered noise-floor ove...
is there really a need for two subs?
I pretty much agree with Sdcampbell. But if I were on a budget (for which I am) I would take one good musical sub over two mediocre subs everytime. The quality of the sub means everything. And this is one region where it's better to do without than ...
How best to spend 2500 CD player for my system?
Sony SCD-1 or e777es models both offer topflight performance for the under $5k range. You should be able to find them used for about $1.5k to $3k. Excellent with redbook and even slightly better with SACD.
Pass x250, Talon Khoruses , what now ?
I'm guessing but I would stick with a bare-bones solid state unit for that price range. High-end tube pre's may be one thing but usually low-end tubes will be something else. And if it's used, you may need to soonish re-tube which could set you ba...
Looking for a cd player to match my system
Check out the Sony SCD-1 player. It's an excellent CD unit with excellent SACD as a bonus. Stereophile has a review and some quips on this unit and their summary is right on the money.BTW, which AZ cables do you have and how do you like them? And ...
What will it buy me?
Thanks for the insight, Twl. Jsbail, I picked up the romex from a friend who got a spool of it custom from some wiring company.10 gauge 99.95% OFC is not that uncommon though. Check out JPSLabs and PartsExpress.com for like wire. But as you probab...
