How many concerts do you attend a year
Marin Alsop will be in Baltimore with the BSO and Nadja Salerno Sonnenberg on and around May 11. I met Marin in the early 90s before she was well know. She auditioned for the Rhode Island Philharmonic job. A good friend is on their Board and invit...
A quick question?
A little hum is normal on a lot of tube gear from my experience.
Best and Worst Reissue/Remaster CDs
These are the wrong kind of music for you, but any classical people reading this thread, the worst IMHO are the DG "Originals". The ones where the CD looks like a mini LP record. They are really bad, unless you want some CDs that sound good in the...
Rel Storm 3 with Thiel CS1.5's ?
The Storm III is a great sub. I love mine. There are review links on the website www.rel.net Also read the HiFi Choice review on their page. It is their favorite sub.
Improving bass response
Oh I forgot; If you still have the REL, a better power cord for it replacing of the stock cord really smooths out the low bass response (less boomy for a REL, which is not boomy compared to other subs). At least 6 feet long. Maybe then it will int...

Marin Alsop in Colorado does a great job!
favorite TCHAIKOVSKY Piano Concerto No.1
Obviously Van Cliburn/Kondrashin RCA 55912-2-RC; Also great and relatively unknown is Santiago Rodriguez with Sofia Philharmonic/Emil Tabakov on ELAN CD-2228; There is also a good performance from Pletnev and the Philharmonia Orchestra on Virgin C...
Excellent recording of Mozart Jupiter No.41 ?
For old stuff, try Bruno Walter, Columbia Symphony on CBS MK-42028; Newer recording is Charles Mackerras, Prague Chamber Orchestra on Telarc CD-80139. Also Neville Marriner and the Academy of St. Martin etc, etc are always good. For original instr...

Baltimore Symphony; Yuri Temirkanov, Director - I have a 9 concert subscription. I end up going to a few more, so we'll say a dozen. My 3 subscription seats are in a second tier box (3 seats) overlooking the stage on the soloist side (left as you ...
Improving bass response
Where is/was the REL Stratus positioned? If you want to overlap the cut-off between the sub and the speakers, move the sub away from the corner towards the middle wall somewhere. Also were you trying to integrate the sub by changing the cut-off fre...
Anyone do DVD player modifications?
Dan and Stan are both very well regarded with both DACs and DVD Players. I believe you could not go wrong with either. Their mods are similar, but not the same. On the Pioneer DVD players Stan completely removes the output stage and replaces it wi...
Words From the Wise
1) Go to some live concerts of your favorite music. It is a great way to keep your ears tuned.2) Get a copy of Robert Harley's book "The Complete Guide to High End Audio" 2nd Edition. Probably the one book that could be called an audio bible.3) Wh...
Anyone do DVD player modifications?
Modwright is NOT Stan Warren. It is Dan Wright. They are both in Oregon.
Help: power problem with Vandersteen 2Wq subs
Is that other plug on a different circuit? If so, what else is on that circuit? Just guessing. Might be overloaded. You could try an electrician also if there is an electrical problem.
NAD 3020 a viable option for a quality system?
Under $100 for a 3020 in good condition is a good deal. Amps have not really gotten better since the 80s; "modern" ones just have more power because most (not all) modern speaker need more.
