Using CD player without Preamp?
If you like the sound, then you're not missing anything.
CD has laid back and uninvolving sound
I have found the sound of digital and vinyl playback to be highly dependent on the source material and recording quality. IMO, it has less to do with the hardware than most people believe.
What loading do you use on your Dynavector XX2MKII
100 ohms. Heed Quasar phono preamp.
Solid State Preamp recommendation for $2500?
In that case, I think excellent options have already been mentioned: Klyne, Rowland Capri, McCormack RLD-1, older Pass Labs X2.5 or older Aleph P. Pick one. You probably can't go wrong with any of them.
Solid State Preamp recommendation for $2500?
Another option is a Juicy Music Peach, which has a selectable high and low output impedance feature. Works with both tube and solid state amps. The one I owned was very quiet. It was a really fun preamp.
Solid State Preamp recommendation for $2500?
This review states the DNA-125 has 100 kOhm input impedance. I own solid state amps with 30 kOhm input impedance, and they work well with low output impedance tube preamps. Is this spec on the DNA-125 incorrect?
Solid State Preamp recommendation for $2500?
I agree with several of the preamps mentioned thus far. Audio Horizons is dead quiet. First Sound Presence Deluxe II is dead quiet. Modwright SWL9.0SE is dead quiet. I have owned all of them.IMO, if you have a problem with hiss using any of these ...
Dh-Labs, KCI or Element interconnect
I agree with Rlwainwright.VH Audio Pulsar, used for under $100, are very good interconnects, as are any of the Mogami interconnects offered by KAB Electro Acoustics (click on the "ART Cables" link in the right column).

I looked at "we-252"'s auctions. I have seen his auctions before, and have considered bidding on a couple of his items. What I notice about some of his offerings is that the listing looks very exciting and slick, but when you actually study the te...

An E-Bay seller search for FantasticTubes does not produce any results. What's the exact E-Bay name of the seller? It sounds familiar. There is at least one tube seller, TubeMuseum, that has hundreds and hundreds of positive feedback ratings, and a...
60 Cycle hum and HumX
The question is whether the HumX is in any way negatively influencing the sound in my system. I am relatively pleased, but wonder if I am missing anything.Dmm53 (Threads | Answers)Not trying to be flippant with this answer, but the only opinion he...

Correcting for phase will create the "Ah-Ha!" moment, IMO.
Technics SL1200: standard overhang gauge or MintLP
12-11-08: Jsd52756There is a cheaper version from Turntable Basics that uses the same mirror type setup.I owned the Turntable Basics protractor. It is not the same, although it does use a mirror, which is more helpful than protractor printed on ca...
Technics SL1200: standard overhang gauge or MintLP
The MintLP website explains it well. The basic physical difference is the MintLPs precision cantilever alignment method (using the parallax effect), its table/arm specific geometry, and the MintLPs very detailed instructions.
