10-15-06: Mrtennistvad, i think your partially correct in your definition of warmth. it is an attenuation of lower treble and upper midrange, with a boost in the lower midrange.if the entire midrange is elevated, brightness may occur, because emph...
Tube Friendly Speakers - Down to 30Hz - $3000?
I'd like to find some speakers that can be used with a wider variety of low powered amplifiers primarily to reduce the investment in preamp/amp. In order for this change to make sense, the new loudspeakers must cost around $3k...new or used.I love...
Questions for specialists on “warmth”
Yes. One could use EQ in lieu of tubes to warm up playback, however, in my limited experience with EQ devices (Audio Control and Behringer), these units affect transparency by reducing ambient cues. If chosen carefully, tubes are more transparent ...
Questions for specialists on “warmth”
TvdIf warmth is as you had described, would one be able to get warmth out of any speaker with by filtering the signal through a good EQ?That would be one method, yes.Does warmth differ in fidelity (between the warmth on a JBL or on a B&W?)Any ...

I think it's pretty simple. If measured, a warm system will have a boost in the midrange frequencies and attenuation in the highs. The result can be achieved in many ways.
Why Von Schweikert VR-1 too lower price ?
That's a good price for excellent speakers. VS loudspeakers are garnering some negative buzz due to factors having no relevance to the quality of their products.Take advantage of the moment and buy the VR1 if you are so inclined.

Tube Friendly Speakers - Down to 30Hz - $3000?
Thought I'd give this a horse another whack to see if it was indeed dead...It's amazing what one learns the more reads and surfs. Here's a pair of Decware MG944: 94 db/ 4 ohms...28Hz-22Khz. $849/pair!Anyone heard these?
Thinking of adding a preamp to an integrated...
Decware: 6 inputs/$119. Red Wine Audio: 4 inputs/$399. Hmmm...Can anyone explain why the Red Wine selector costs 200% more than the Decware...beyond parts? There aren't very many parts involved as it is.
Thinking of adding a preamp to an integrated...
Red Wine Audio offers a four input source select switch. $399. You can try it in-home for 30 days.
PAD Venustas
Ozzy, I agree generally with your comments, but you might find it beneficial to hang on to both (or own both). Why?Venustas and Aqueous will perform differently when placed in different positions in the system chain. Also, they will positively or ...
A great article on Class D/switching amps
The Red Wine Signature 30 is an intriguing amp for use with high efficiency loudspeakers.
Is Digital actually better than Analog?
You're a good sport D_edwards.
Please explain amplifier output impedance
I think there is no real good rule of thumb. Everyone has to just listen to the amp/speaker combo and decide for themselves.Tboooe (System | Reviews | Threads | Answers)Not to necessarily critique Tboooe's comment, but it prompted a thought. It see...
