HELP please. phono preamp
An Aesthetix IO would be an excellent choice. I have seen them on the used market under $3k. One of the best.
Back-Up Low Output MC For My Arkiv B?
All the models of DL103 are available direct from Denon USA, except for the DL103R model, which is not imported. It is my favorite one of this series. It can be ordered from Singapore via Audiogon member "Martin" through the Audiogon member lookup...

Agree with Viridian.
Review: Star Sound Technology Sistrum SP-4 Audio Rack Stand
Mephisto, you'll freak when you try the Sistrum platforms under your speakers. I have them under my single-driver Lowther Voigt Pipes, and they made a substantial difference for the better. I had a slight boxy cabinet resonance in the lower midran...

What cartridge for MMF-7?
Sure you could do that on the Project 9. Try a Denon Dl103R or a Ortofon X5-MC. An EAR 834P is a good tube phono stage at a reasonable price.
What cartridge for MMF-7?
About your frequency response hump at 40-50Hz, that is probably a room interaction. It may depend on where you are standing when you take the measurement. It may be quite different in different spots in the room. If you are doing it at your chair,...
Newbie question on TT.
Marty, does it help if you empty those 3 drinking glasses of a fine single-malt Scotch whisky before you put them under the table? :^)I didn't know if the Dual 701 is direct drive. Sorry if I was wrong about that.
It takes music to open up a tube preamp/amp
I have found that a certain amount of time of warming up will make most systems sound better, and especially the very good ones. Tubes need to be played to get them sounding where you want them to be. I find I usually have to listen to at least 1 ...
Newbie question on TT.
Make sure the belt is good, and clean the RCA connectors real well. Get a cartridge alignment protractor for $20 from turntablebasics.com and make sure the cartridge is aligned properly. Make some minor adjustments in the tracking force and anti-s...
What cartridge for MMF-7?
Stuart, thanks. Yes I recommended MM becuase of the output. With low output MC, there is more gain needed, and inexpensive phono stages aren't known for doing that very well. Here's what I'd recommend. Go the inexpensive route on the phono stage an...
Best set-up for up to 9k retail?
Tom, when I get a chance to come out and do a comparison, I'll let you know. I really can't give you a definitive answer on that, because I have not set them side by side and compared. If I said something about it and was wrong, I'd be doing peopl...
What cartridge for MMF-7?
Your selection of phono stage will have alot to do with what cartridge you can use. You need to have the proper amount of gain for the cartridge. I think that if you are going to use a low cost phono stage, that you would be better with a good qua...
Planning to go analog
Smokester, the issue of how a table will interact with the room and floorborne vibrations is very dependent on the individual situation. I have found that my Teres actually has less problems with this than my suspended turntables. If it is possibl...
Where are analog resources for the beginner?
A very good start would be in the Audiogon archives. There is a wealth of information right there. Then do some searches on Google, under turntable design and stuff like that. You will turn up alot of articles about what a turntable should do and ...
