Will I be a jaw dropping Wow for an upgraded CDP?
Sorry, forgot about the record cleaning machine. But you could get that later.
Will I be a jaw dropping Wow for an upgraded CDP?
Ake, I am going to tell you something right now. If you are using a Walkman CD, and you haven't already blown alot of cash on CD discs, then you just have to go with an analog setup for the kind of system that you have. For $600, you could get a R...
Improving reviews
I think these are some excellent suggestions. I would like to add an idea or two. In the commentary on the sound of equipment, it is not just the equipment that needs to be evaluated. The listener/reviewer should list his previous experience, and ...
Kasey Chambers; "Barricades and Brickwalls"
JD, you've hit my hot button. I love female vocals and am intrigued by hidden songs. I will try to get the import CD, but do you know if the album is available on LP?
VPI Scout.
Rives, the Teres is a factory direct product, and available either as a kit or complete. No dealer network. There are several hundred of them out there now, but I don't know if there are any owners in your area. No, I don't get any commission off t...

Without trying to sound like a "broken record" :^), I seriously recommend the Teres Audio line of turntables. If you search the archives, you can read what I and others have said about them. Also search the Vinyl Asylum archives under Teres. Their...
Anyone else like to Listen in the Dark?
I always keep my small 7 watt turntable light on so I don't bust my ass when I get up to change the record. I keep all the other lights off. Also, it helps me to read the record label when I want to cue up a particular track. Then I can keep just ...
Being reminded of the big picture...
Atzen, I know what you mean! While I am not the greatest piano player, I do play a little jazz and blues. It is really a wonderful experience to actually create the music, even if not at a high level. It's not the result that is of the utmost impo...
DIY speaker: braid vs twist vs straight
I have never used silver wire in my speaker cables. I did use it once in a preamp I modded, and it was too bright. If you use a SET amp w/ transformer induced problems like high-end rolloff, it can be used to somewhat compensate for that. I really...
Audiogon Hall of Fame? And the nominees are...
Since I am named above, I am staying out of it. :^) But seriously, I very much enjoy this site and it's posters. I've made friends here. Everyone, especially myself, can get a short-fuse now and then. And I'm sure I'm known as being highly opinion...
Tube Preamp for Dynaco ST 70
Good suggestions, Dekay. I would also like to add the MFA Magus to the list. Also, the Counterpoint preamps. They are very good preamps w/ phono sections. The MFA can be had used, of course, for under $600, and sometimes the Counterpoints are seen...
How often do you upgrade your other passions?
Since I had to do a paint job on my Jag XJS anyway because of that tree limb falling on the hood, I decided to put 2 rows of hood louvers into it before repainting. Of course, all the little flaws in the body will get the perfection treatment, and...
Ok, so what does Phase Inversion actually do??
I have always been under the impression that if you have a phase-inverting preamp, you should correct the phase, either in the IC's or the speaker leads to ensure proper phasing at the output. If you do not do this, the initial impulse of the driv...
Can someone recommend a few Joni Michell albums?
"Miles of Aisles" is a double LP that has many of the most loved Joni songs, recorded in a live performance. The recording is a good one, and the crowd doesn't really interfere with the songs. The song "All I Want" on this LP is IMO the best versi...
Review: Axiom Loudspeakers M-80ti Speaker
Do you have the speakers on spikes? If they are standing directly on the carpet, you can get even better sound for real cheap, by using spiked feet under them. A very effective easy improvement.
