Anybody into 80s big music?
If you want an amazing eighties album with superb production I can't recommend Shriekback's Big Night Music highly enough, especially the b-side. In fact mainly the b-side. I love that album and also use it as a test record when I get new tubes/eq...
How important is bass to you?
Hugely important. Like Prcinka I went through a stage of buzzing on the midrange, then swapped in some rft ecc82s and reached nirvana. You have no PRAT without a prominent rhythm section. Nor do you have the fundamental notes that make music sound...
Tone arm upgrade
The RB300 is a very good tonearm. Your money will be better spent somewhere else in the chain. Get a decent tubed phono pre or a new cart, as Jake suggests.
Wacky Question about cartridges
Hi Lemmy, ask this question on the vinylengine forums and you'll get a LOT of good advice, those guys are obsessed with everything vinyl. There are compliance issues with the cartridge/arm interface that you'll need to address but once you've got ...
Whats wrong
Hmm. Most likely scenario is a warm up issue, everything can sound sluggish at first. I doubt it's your turntable at fault, especially since it's new.
Wanted NAD 3020
There are literally millions of them floating around. Check out ebay.co.uk
Tube preamp recommendations
Before you get into different tubes/preamps I'd play around with your speaker positioning. Make sure the tweeters are at least 6ft apart and if you have them out in the room, move them back towards the wall a touch. Also try moving your listening ...
Best pre-amp in an integrated
For that money you can go straight to separates. A Yaqin MS-12B preamp with NOS RCA blackplates or Telefunkens will set you back around $600. They honestly sound amazing. Then spend $1500-$2000 on a quality used power amp like a First Watt. Later ...
Tweeter placement
The whole "tweeter at ear level" thing is overblown. Just sit at a height where it A: Sounds good to you and, B: Presents a deep and largely horizontal soundstage. This is speaker dependent. I sit with my ears a good 12-20 inches above the tweeter...
Mirage M7si bass bump how to deal with it?/
Hmmm. I'd just pass on them if you've tried everything. Sounds like the bass is a deal breaker. That graph was showing an 8db hump between 40 and 100 which is ridiculous in my opinion and suggests some bizarre design decisions. There are better sp...
Mirage M7si bass bump how to deal with it?/
Good advice above. Decouple them from the floor for starters, then play around with distance from the rear wall. You'll be amazed at the difference this makes. Start from three or more feet out (woofer to wall) which should tame the lower bass, th...
Hegel Amplifier
The voltage may form some manner of dialectic if you plug it in and let rip, although I would personally use a step up transformer.
Hegel Amplifier
I love that there's such a thing as Hegel amplifiers.
Why do my ears ring with my new amplifier?
My guess is you're turning it up subconsciously because it lacks bass, and the ringing is due to odd-order harmonic distortion. Once the amp has broken in properly it might get a bit better, but 100 hours is usually enough to know if it's going to...
Why do my ears ring with my new amplifier?
Tape some tissue paper over your tweeters just to make sure it's not excessive energy in the 2-10 khz region.
