adding a fan to an enclosed cabinet
sononorway, sounds like my situation is similar to yours. It's a piece made by a regular furniture company. The back is thin plywood (or fiberboard)-maybe 3/8" thick. I'll check radio shack and see what they have to offer and pick up a couple. tha...
Bryston: THX for 2 ch - a good thing or not?
I am very hazy on what I remember having read before about this. I thought the difference was that the THX had an extra connection on the back of it so it could be turned on by relay when a home theater preamp was turned on. feel free to correct m...
upgrade TT or speakers??
My stereo is in my living room- probably 13'x20' with the speakers along the long wall. I believe that this room is large enough to handle speakers this large. As far as the goal- I want an overall cleaner and more natural sound... more of a reali...
preamp suggetions for mid lvl system
Keroo, check out a used bryston pre. They would be nice, neutral and reliable. I'm using an Odyssey Tempest Extreme that I'm happy with. i'm not sure that it would be easy to locate in India. Bryston would most likely be easier to find.
Need help with sub selection
You could take a look at one of the Q series Rel subs. I don't have any extended experience with one (only at an in-store demo). Sounds clean and a fair amount of adjustments. An older Vandersteen 2w (non q) would be fairly close to your budget.
North Carolina Audio Club
sounds good. I'm in Raleigh. I think there may already be one in Charlotte.
Buying decision time, or Time for a sanity check?
I doubt I could get away with such trickery! At least she reckonizes sound quality... I became instant friends with her best work friend's husband when I discovered he has an audio set up a step up from mine (his- Vandy 2ce sigs, Audio Research, O...
Buying decision time, or Time for a sanity check?
My last purchase was for a pre-amp. I hadn't heard of the brand until two months before I bought a used one from another a-gonner... it's extremely rare for me to do something that can be considered so impulsive. I had never tried switching pre-am...
help me build a system for $1200
I'd also consider the Bryston B60. I like your idea of the Musical Fidelity (I'm not familiar with how your other choices sound). I give a very strong recommendation to the Vandersteen 1c's- used around $500.00. They're floorstanders, so that woul...
Phono preamps
If you are considering used, the Lehmann's Black Cube is just a hair more than that price point. I'll have one for sale shortly. Let me know if you are interested.
Good way to dampen tonearm?
Why not dampen it with something from the outside instead of the inside? I remember a local audio dealer that did this with a Well Tempered table (not sure of the arm). He had it wrapped just as you would re-wrap a tennis grip. It was a rubbery ma...
Where to see Audio in Manhattan
I went to NYC about a month and a half ago and went into a few stores. I was not impressed with Stereo Exchange (I'm 95% sure I have that remembered correctly- lots of B&W and McIntosh). Nobody acknowledged me during the 10 minutes that I was ...
Is it time to get active?
I just made the switch recently from a McCormack Micro Line Drive (and Lehmann's Black Cube) to an Odyssey Stratos Extreme (built in upgraded phono section). I think that it made a huge difference. I really don't feel like I lost in anything in th...
Cars. What does the typical audiophile drive?
I currently have a 2005 Subaru Impreza. In the future I may have a Subaru Impreza STI (if I make the decision, or a Toyota Prius/ Camry Hybrid, if the wife chooses). If money was no object, I would get a Lotus Elise. If money was really no object,...
