Rega Planar 3 Tonearm Question
If it is black and straight, it is a RB-300. If is silver and "S" shaped, it is a RB-200.
2 Quad EL34 sets for Dynaco ST-70
With the amp off, and the tubes cool, pull the tubes straight up, holding them at the base of the tube, not the glass. This may take considerable force, try not to rock them back and forth too much as you do this. Your Dyna uses two sets of matche...
Restoring a Transrotor Skeleton...help
Probably helps to get the name right first. Transrotor is a German turntable manufacturer. You probably have a Transcriptors Skeleton, perhaps with Vestigial arm. I have done a restoration on one. The company is back in business and has some limit...
To match quad EL34 tubes
First, you don't need a matched quad of tubes for the Stereo 70. What you need is two matched pairs, as bias is adjusted by the pair. This usually makes it a bit easier. In my opinion, the Simens are not particularly good sounding tubes, and for m...
How to test a used amp?
You can also short the inputs, NOT OUTPUTS, and, with speakers connected, that will tell you the ambient noise level of the amp.
New TT-- new problem
You need to break in. Take a deep breath. Just enjoy the rig for a few weeks. Stop screwing with it. Let it settle, let yourself adjust. Get to know some of your favorite music better. Breathe, breathe, breathe. You will acclimate and the rig will...
dynaco st 70 what tubes to replace first
Another voice heard from. I run Klipsch Fortes with mine and would say that the biggest difference was going to a Mullard 5AR4. Any Stereo 70 can use 6L6, KT66, EL34, 6CA7, KT77, etc. For power tubes, I would suggest getting away from the EL34/KT7...
RB300 anti-skating problem never quite ?
Wow, strange answers. To answer your question, yes this is completely normal in Rega arms as the magnets that provide the anti-skating force always have a slight attraction, no matter where the slider is set.
Status of the Cartridge Database
Ed, your website is one of the most worthwhile available for those of us in the hobby. Thanks so much for keeping this information available. I constantly use the site for reference. Bravo and thanks again!Marty
Arm upgrade for Gyrodec SE, could use some help
Wow, I don't think that the venerable Alphason is the weak link by any stretch of the imagination. I would look at almost everything before that arm. Actually the whole rig looks pretty well put together. How about some detail work, tube swapping,...
New LP with pops + crackle, What is expected?
A "master recording" means that the source for the LP is the original master tape. It is common for record companies to use safety masters, which are copies made from the master, or other copies, which are ,at the minimum, one generation away from...
New LP with pops + crackle, What is expected?
I think that it's just part of the game. If you want quiet, get CDs. Too bad that we don't have something that combines the strengths of the two formats and has a large catalog as well. If you want to stick with LP, make sure that you clean them b...
Best pivoted arm for SOTA less than $1000 used
A lot depends on the cartridge that you wish to use, but the SOTA turntables were designed around the SME arms. The 309 just fits your price point and is a very decent arm.
The Cyclicality of Black Vs Silver
Well, at least I know that I prefer black discs over silver.........
Primaluna and Rogue
You might want to do a bit of reading about Quicksilver gear as well.
