Turntable sound bad
Some thoughts. The Rega template diverges from Van Baerwald alignment. Download the Rega Baerwald protractor from The Vinyl Engine. The compliance of the original Rega feet is an integral part of the Rega resonance control system. Using spiked feet...
Live Santana...
I believe that Lotus was only available on LP as a three LP set, pressed in Japan by Sony. My copy has excellent sonics and the performances highlight the jazzier, more stretched out, side of the band. Moonflower has better sonics, but noiser surf...
New LP Returns
I usually eat them and am just glad to be able to purchase new records locally at all. Lost Highway and Scorpio seem to have virtually no quality control at all. I did break with tradition and return the Nick Drake "Fruit Tree" boxed set. It was j...
Used monitor under$600 with good bass low levels
The only thing that could mimic that would be the bathroom on the space shuttle.
McCormack DNA .5 and 1- big difference?
The .5 is a DC coupled design; you can start worrying about welding your voice coils again.
B&K Sonata EX442 and ST-202 - circuit protection?
If I remember, the 202 is capacitor coupled, so the output coupling cap should prevent any substantial amounts of DC being on the outputs. The 442 is a direct coupled design and I do not know which method it uses, probably servos, to block DC on t...
Musical involvement?
I find that most arm/cartridge combos are less involving when playing the music of Patricia Barber or Holly Cole, but Barry Manilow and Bread can also make an arm/cartridge combo sound rather uninvolving.
darTZeel new mono blocks - coming soon
That would be Tinn, as in Tinn ear.

Repair Reliability?
Sns, Stereophile surveyed all of it's subscribers as regards reliability by marque. They even offered to extend the subscription by one issue to each respondant. No information was ever printed in the magazine referencing the info that they garner...
Stones: Sticky FIngers.....
Frank_sm, good catch, I just checked, my "Let It Bleed" is a great sounding hybrid CD, not "Sticky Fingers". Mea culpa.
What's the Best LP You Bought in 2008
I hate my copy of "Little Honey". Where does Lost Highway press these things? It is almost as warped as my copy of "World Without Tears". And both sound murky to boot; I will only buy the CDs from now on.
What's the Best LP You Bought in 2008
The best new music is Charlie Haden's roots music effort, "Rambling Boy" the best reissue is Herbie Hancock's, "Maiden Voyage", which is a standard Blue Note reissue from the analog source and comes with a CD to boot, for only $21.00.
Stones: Sticky FIngers.....
Thanks to Gary Giorgi for screwing up the Sticky Fingers on MoFi, along with so many others. I have a copy and it sucks. The original Atco LP is great and the SACD is probably the best record of the bunch.
Repair Reliability?
Sns, I hear you. People never seem to get electrocuted when they clearly deserve it. It almost seems like a random act sometimes.
