What is a Transcription Turntable
Great post Rushton. I beleve that Simon Yorke built a few transcription turntables for the Library Of Congress in the last couple of years. Nice rigs!
Supertramp's Breakfast in America LP
No, the MoFi and A&M half speeds are really not that good, but the UHQR of Crime is unbelievably good. There is, apparently, an unusually large sonic difference in the different matrixs used in the UHQR Crime. I have only heard two, but it wou...
MM vs. MC
I would recommend the Audio-Technica AT-OC9 mk2, under $300.00. That leaves $500.00 for a phono stage, and here we will stretch your wallet and go for the Phenomena at $600.00, or the Dino for $650.00. I have never heard the phono stage in your am...
Which of These Budget SS Preamps?
I would throw the Audio Research LS-3 into the mix; a really fine preamp.
Your favorite versions of Aja and Katy Lied?
4yanx hits the nail on the head as far as the LP versions are concerned.
Linn Tables. Where to start? Please Help
Hi-Fi News and Record review did a marvelous article a few years back that gave a comprehensive history of the LP12 and showed serial numbers, the corresponding manufacturing dates and the changes made to the design. It is quite useful.
VTA on Rega for Denon DL 103
I use the smaller of the two spacers, available from your Rega dealer, with the 103D. I believe that it is 2MM.
The majic of early 1970's rock and it's influence-
As anecdotal evidence of your excellent point, about two months aga a twenty-something gentleman that I work with came up to me all in a lather. "I heard the greatest blues guitarist," he said. "Who is it?", I asked. "Oh you havn't heard of him, h...
Need better sound from my records, where to start?
Jed, I think that you misread Rocky's post. He said that the Audio-Technica ATOC9, a MC cartridge, is quieter than the Shure V15Vmr, a MM cartridge, not that the AT440ml is quieter than the Shure M97xE. Confusing world this analog stuff. I will te...
Need better sound from my records, where to start?
Yes EL, $65.00 or so, including shipping, from www.jacksmusicfactory.com.
Need better sound from my records, where to start?
That's a very light arm on that thing. I don't think that a medium compliance or low compliance moving coil, such as the Dynavector or Ortofon will be an optimum match. Would suggest the less-expensive Shure M97xE for a warm sound, or the Audio-Te...
Checking the AC polarity of your amplifier
Check the potential from the chassis to house ground with a volt meter. The lower voltage is the correct position.
Audiophile reggae?
Third World, "98 Degrees In The Shade".
Odd distortion on new LP, and also replacements
If you cannot locate, or afford, an original Blue Note pressing, the Japanese reissue from the 1970s is really quite good. It is on King Records GFX 3001. I have not heard recent reissues, but the King, though somewhat different sonically, has a l...
the wicked witch is dead
The music wasn't too loud, but your ritualistic sacrifice of live goats kind of put them off their dinner.
