Few problems on "new" tt
Remi, I would suggest that it may be your growing record collection, not your turntable, that is worth the new cartridge.Regards,Marty
Unexpected tweak
It seems just as likely that the fresh solder joint would be responsible for the better sound quality. We are quick to ascribe causality to things in this hobby when often there may be other factors at play.
Narrow tuner.
Musical Fidelity X-Plora.
Best tube AM/FM tuner
I have owned both the MR65 and MR71 and the 71 seemed better both in its RF qualities as well as sonically. Both are way, way below my two favorites, the Fisher FM-1000 and the vaunted Marantz 10B. While 10Bs are very spendy, FM-1000s come around ...
Tok20000 is going pro
As the old saw goes, Q: How do you make a small fortune in the audio business? A:Start with a large fortune.
is this the best guitar ever
Great album, the follow up, recorded in the studio, "Passion, Grace and Fire", doesn't measure up but is more of the same. For some other nicely recorded modern guitar try Larry Coryell and Philip Catherine's "Twin House" on Electra. Most of it is...
Tom Waitts Where do I begin?
Drive right off of the tracks; Waits did the sound track to the movie "One From The Heart" with, of all people, Crystal Gayle. It all seems like it has to be crap, but the whole mess is truly sublime and must have for Waits completists.
What will you be playing to celebrate?
Patrick, I respect what you say but did want to clarify a few things. In my original post I took issue with Thsalmon's remark that most Audiogoners agreed with his sentimient based on the fact that most of the respondants to this thread did. To me...
What will you be playing to celebrate?
Patrick, I deleted the post; sometimes there is too much heat and too little light. I love freedom of speech and the constitution. I consider myself a good American but opposed the war in Vietnam as well as the action in Iraq. I do not consider my...
Digital vs. Analog a reasoned comparison
Elizabeth rocks! Again! I would only add that an entire audio system takes a great amount of time and effort to optimize. My recent experience in improving power delivery alone bears this out. A turntable is no different. A stuffed dog never pisse...
Tube Amps and young children - avoiding burns etc.
The problem is not limited to tube amps. Rappaport, which made the fantastic pure class A, solid-state, Amp One, was put out of business by law suits arising from the burns resulting from the extremely hot casework. I wouldn't worry though, most p...
Tonearm/table compatibility?
The SME arms require a different cutout profile than either the Linn or Rega cutout. The Origin Live arms begin with Rega sourced arms. There are no Rega knock offs as the tooling required to make the unique one piece arm casting would be far too ...
Warped record playback
Most warps should not be an issue at all. If the compliance of the cartridge is optimized to the moving mass of the arm, then the cantiliver should not deflect at all when playing warps. If the arm/cartridge resonant point is not optimal then you ...
Tonearm/table compatibility?
The SOTA tables seem to sound really good with the SME arms. The 309 is a good match, but at around $850.00 used it is a bit of a stretch. Then again, if you can throw in the money from the Linn arm that you sell, and eat at Denny's for a few mont...

Music to justify incursions into underdeveloped countries by. How charming. Anything by Toby Keith comes to mind.
