Concert attendance
Looking foreward to seeing Robert Earl Keene in August; it'll be the first time that I've seen him. Yes, less concerts this year, mostly due to time constraints.
Looking to get TT
Rocky, is that Ian Matthew's of Matthew's Southern Comfort fame? I saw him as well as Gentle Giant several times. The Giant warmed up Tull on one or two of the tours. Caught them at Madison Square Garden and Springfied Civic Center, I believe. Ano...
Preamp or CD Player for Best Sonic Improvement
You havn't mentioned other sources, and it may be begging the obvious, but changing the pre will benefit all of your source components, while changing the CD will only benefit....the CD. Additionally you might consider that, while amplification de...
Where does one obtain lead shot to fill stands
I mix the lead shot with clean, dry sand which can be purchased at Home Depot/Lowes or Toys R Us. Don't use sand that is lying about or has been collected at the beach as the moisture and saline content may be deleterious.
What do you think about this ?
Knock yourself out. Ignore the rules. Interesting that the guy who backed out was within Audiogon guidelines and you are saying that you will go outside of them if you receive another e-mail. Warren, the reason that Audiogon has the policy is so t...
What do you think about this ?
Audiogon is clear in its instructions that feedback cannot be left unless money changes hands or an auction is won. Neither happened here so no feedback. Period. This stuff happens all of the time; it is simply part of the cost of doing business o...
Looking to get TT
Rocky, I really think that Francisco has a lot to say and is not afraid to say it. Like you, I do not agree with some of what he espouses, but his viewpoint is the result of much thought and experience. Many audiophiles just parrot the party line ...
phono pre loading and gain question
Tom, my comments were made to point out how important noise structure is to the whole equation, not to call into question the veracity of your statement. You own the cartridge, as I said, I don't. I would always, always, defer to your expertise in...
phono pre loading and gain question
OK, I tried the gain calculator at Kab Acoustics www.kabusa.com/pregain.htm and for a MC output of .2mv and a desired preamp output of .5 volt the calculator recommends 64db of gain. The problem with the whole game is that gain only tells you if y...
Does bridging give you the monoblock sound??
The vertical configuration presupposes that the amplifiers ane exactly identical as they are in the original posters case.
Does bridging give you the monoblock sound??
Detlof, this is the first time in my life that I have been dead right on anything. I was wondering if you could tell my wife.Regards,Marty
Does bridging give you the monoblock sound??
A lot of bridgeable amps sound worse in bridged mode than in stereo. I cannot say about yours. An alternative would be to use one amp to biamp each of your Studio 20s with one channel powering the tweeter terminals and the other powering the woofe...
How can you tell if a speaker has impedence dips?
Stereophile did a full review a few years ago complete with an impedance vs. frequency graph. Don't forget that these things are 89db sensitive so for most programme you will be cruising at a few milliwatts. You can't pump giant wattage on a conti...
phono pre loading and gain question
Wow! I knew you would set me straight on this one. That seems like a truckload of gain but these things are so cartidge specific, that's why I pointed out that you owned one and I don't. My only experience with super low output cartridges is with ...
phono pre loading and gain question
Tom, how is that possible? He has 48db of gain in the phono preamp and 20db in the preamp for a total of 68db before the 18 to 30db of gain that the amp will have. At most he could be 7db short, but I would think that he could make it easy on this...
