What is the characteristic of diff. Triode Tubes?
Before delving into the subjective differences in the three named tubes it might benefit us to answer the first question which is what are the characteristics of the three tubes. The 300B and 2A3 are true triodes or three element tubes, without ge...
What is the best used ARC Pre-Amp to get?
Speaking of the tape loop, if all else fails and you end up with a rig that has no remote, Creek makes a nifty little passive volume control that is remote controlled. You can rig it into a tape loop and voila, you have remote control of volume wh...
Cryogenics: accomplish what and work how?
Small world. Ted Williams' relatives are asking the same questions you are.
Can I zap myself biasing my tube amp??
BTW don't think that having an amp off is protection against sticking your mits in the wrong place. If the capacitors are not discharged you can fry as easily as if the thing was plugged in as they are energy storage devices and that energy remain...
METAL or WOOD speaker stands?
What, no concrete or Corian?
Can I zap myself biasing my tube amp??
Only if you do it orally.
What is the best used ARC Pre-Amp to get?
I don't remember any Audio Research Preamp that has both a phono stage and remote. Maybe one of the more knowledgeable AR guys will correct me. That said, if you want phono but no remote and you have deep pockets SP-10 series which runs around $20...
Your favorite obscure ECM album
Well, there are many interesting ECM albums, but you asked for "obsucre" so that's what's on the menu today. Welcome to the "land of the extremely obsure", Dave Holland "Emerald Tears",ECM 1-1109, An incredible voyage delivered on the solo upright...
Tube amp power rating question.

bad experiences buying on line
I too am having a bad experience but not as clear cut as yours. The seller shipped me some cables that were in terrible condition but graded 8/10. He is new to the site so I have laid it all out for him but he seems to be quite truculent and I reg...
where to put rack
Sidssp is absolutely right about the bass null however this does not take into account the possibly deleterious effects of reflections off of the rack on the soundstage. The best thing to do is to try all three positions and find out for yourself....
Best P-Mount cartridge -- No Grado please
The original Blue Point of a few years ago was a P-mount, however they changed the body style and the current model will no longer work. You could try sourcing a used one but it too is dark and may prove to lack excitment in the same way a Grado d...
Newbie - Integrated to go with Paradigm 5seMK3's
Definitely better balanced, but I think that you are throwing money away when using a $500.00CD player and the old Paradigms with an amp of that caliber. I am not bashing the Paradigms by the way, I own a pair of the Studio 20s, that I recommended...
