Funny that Tom refers to monophonic playback as "not acceptable"; I find mono superior to stereophonic reproduction.
Best vintage Marantz receivers?
I don't know about tubes being too expensive. Your Fortes are very sensitive. I powered mine, in a large room, with a Stromberg Carlson ASR-433 integrated amp that I bought off of the net for $150.00 and threw about another $100.00 at, including a...
Best vintage Marantz receivers?
Finnegan, I have owned Fortes, Kg4s and still own early Cornwalls. Tubes, tubes, tubes. None of these speakers sound correct to me with solid state. If you are stuck on SS, something soft like NAD is your best bet.
In the red; insufficient power
Before going that route, why not just check your line voltage with a multimeter; it could be the Panamax that is the issue.
H.H. Scott LK-150 voltages
Bob, sorry I don't have the info that you desire. Maybe contact NOS Valves, they are Scott experts.I did want to just add some words of encouragement. I too am in Portland and I have a 299C that I want to refurbish. I have a project or two ahead o...
Should I keep around my NAD 3155?
I think that you have a very balanced system. I'd stand pat.

I gave you a link to the site, if you click on it you will find out who Steve is. You really don't need a crystal ball. Do you have a mouse on your computer?
Thorens TD 166 MK II Suspension?
Steve's site, The Analog Department has everything that you need to know about Thorens turntables. Check out the video on suspension tuning as well as both written summaries:http://www.theanalogdept.com/You will want to remove the foam from inside...
J Mitchell Blue Hoffman Reissue fantastic
As determined by the outcome, the master tape did not cause any problems for the original mastering, by Bernie Grundman, which is superior in texture and dynamic shading to the reissue. Though that may not be a knock on the remastering itself; the...
What Song Reminds You of Your First Love?
"You Left Me Sore" from Something/Anything by Todd Rundgren.
Underrated jazz greats
Orpheus alas, for me records are like children, there can be no favorites. But a starting point for the Akioshi/Tabakin Big Band is probably "Long Yellow Road" on RCA. Kirk is just too tough, too many styles, too much development, but why not star...
Linn Ittok or Grace 707?
Absolutely, the Linn with the proviso that you will be using a medium to low compliance cartrdge. Audio Origami in Britain supports the Linn arms, and Jim Howard does so in the States, so that should not be too much of an issue.Other nice candidat...
Why not horns?
Mrdecibel, is it the showing up late, or the immaturity, that is the problem with Face's post?If the former, he probably missed your invitation to join at a specific time in his inbox. If the latter, I take it as an amusing joke. Have you been mod...
