The BEST system you've ever built !!!!
OK, audio freaks, here's the best I've built, and it doesn't require a lot of money, either! It's all Stan Warren equipment, beginning with an upgraded and modified Onkyo CD player, interconnected to Superphon Dual Mono preamp. interconnected to S...
Most resolving, transparent amps.
I am currently using a Marsh a400s amp coupled with a Superphon Dual Mono preamp (upgraded and modified by Stan Warren), and speakers with internal crossover by Stan Warren, and also interconnects and speaker cables by Stan. He also recommended th...
Review: Superphon Revelation mkII Preamplifier
Stan will soon have a Superphon web site, to be known as, or designated: Superphon.netHe likes to upgrade and/or modify his products as they age.He very much likes his Basic preamp, the Revelation Dual Mono.Stan builds interconnects and speaker ca...
Tube preamp with balanced in/out and remote?
From Waltcertain,Sorry, I was mistaken, I'm confusing two Marsh preamps, the balanced and the tube versions. The tube pre doesn't have either a remote nor balanced outputs. The balanced preamp, has both balanced and RCA outputs, but is not a tube...
Tube preamp with balanced in/out and remote?
The Marsh p2000b preamp has warmth and a great sound stage, rivaling preamps much more expensive. You can sometimes find one on eBay for around $750 or so, used. The remote controls balance and volume.waltcertan
Golden Tube amps
As mentioned, I have a Golden Tube integrated amp and need to know how to set the tube bias. I'm very pleased with the sound of this unit. It has proved reliable so far. I've only had to replace the output tubes, thus the need to set the bias.Walt...

Preamp Deal of the Century
Just recently purchased Paul F's Supratek Sauvignon preamp, replacing my Chenin. Hooked it up to my BAT VK-200 amp and let the Sauvignon warm up for half an hour. Then place a CD into my hot-rodded CD player and turned on the system. I thought the...
Preamp Deal of the Century
I've just purchased a moderately used Supratek Chenin preamp, and WHOA! what a difference it made in my system. The sound is much better in all respects, and I was theretofore using a nice Counterpoint tube preamp, which sounded pretty good, but n...
Best Value Speaker Model for the Buck?
Condocondor, I auditioned Vandersteen's up to $12,000/pair, and then I listened to the Magneplanar 1.6's and I was blown away. I found them more open and airy than the Vandersteen's! I bought the Maggies on the spot for $1725 and never looked back...
Need help with my office system
Shawnparslow, Why not purchase a small pair of Magneplanar panel speakers. You could get a floor standing model, about 4 1/2 ft high, or a pair of wall mounted speakers that swivel out from the wall. Either way, you could position them toward your...
Jolida 502A - Other owners, what speakers?
Mskeen, Your Jolida tube amp would sound great with a pair of Magneplanar 1.6's. Listen to them sometime and I think you'll really like them. I own a pair and when I first heard them I knew instantly that these were the speakers for me. You could ...
What amp should be used with merlin vsm's?
Pedrillo, I'd give a listen to the Quicksilver V4 tube amps, which put out 120 watts per chanel. They are very liquid, have very good 3-dimensionality, and a convincing presence. They are about $4000 used, but worth it.waltcertain
DCM speakers
Aktchi, Personally, I'd much rather have a pair of Magneplanar 1.6 planar speakers. They produce a beautiful, spacious sound with great soundstage and dimensionality. You could pick up a good used pair on Audiogon for less than $1000. New, they ru...
