Subwoofer advice please
Yes, I know there are (a very small number of) dipole subs. It was Gradient in Finland (not DSpeaker) who made them. However, they were huge and not particularly cheap. I am in Europe, so the GR Research offerings were not really an option. But ye...
Question for cable/wire naysayers.....

Subwoofer advice please
I have owned Quad electrostats for the last 37 years, and most recently the 2805. I think they are the most natural and vanishingly neutral speakers that there are. Some years ago I decided that in our new and rather larger living room we might be...
PrimaLuna Dialogue Premium Preamplifier. DESTROYS SPEAKERS!!
The original amplifier used with the PrimaLuna pre amp was a Pass XA-30.8. The PrimaLuna had a leaking capacitor that passed DC to the power amp, with sad results.
External DAC
A Benchmark will be a better DAC, but I doubt you will hear the difference. DACs are so good that they are rarely the bottle neck in a system. Speakers and the room always are, but I see elsewhere that you have nice Spendors. So, if your room is b...
PrimaLuna Dialogue Premium Preamplifier. DESTROYS SPEAKERS!!
No I am not a dealer but a university professor. PrimaLuna talked this man into buying a PrimaLuna power amp as well. That is all I know. Sigh.
Amp for Harbeth p3esr

Amp for Harbeth p3esr
I agree that these are magical speakers - I love mine. In my study I use them without a sub, but I did try them out with a sub in the large living room, and that worked very well. So depending on the size of your listening room you may well enjoy ...
PrimaLuna Dialogue Premium Preamplifier. DESTROYS SPEAKERS!!
I have just found back a letter from another user who reported that a failed capacitor in his PrimaLuna Dialogue preamplifier destroyed a Harbeth SHL5+ speaker. I knew I had it somewhere but it took me a while to retrieve it.
Amp fan cooling without dc current in the 110 line
I sympathize, even if my pretty unruly kids never did this. Ultimately, of course, this is the product of the gross inefficieny of many amplifiers. All that electricity that goes in does not come out as electricity at the speaker terminals, but a ...
dynamic classical which isn't boring?
Is this all the musical interest that audiophiles can muster?
Is it the beer or do speakers/electronics really need some extended warm-up period?
If they need such a warm up, they are a truly bad design.

I sympathise with your desire to keep audio boxes out of sight. I have a little digital amp tucked away in a wardrobe as a bedroom amp. My Quad 606-2 sits in a well ventilated cabinet, without any problems. Anyway, I would be surprised if a fan wo...

If your gear is so thermally unstable it is crap. Fortunately, that is very rare - or you are delusional.
Streaming vs traditional
I think it is useful to distinguish between two kinds. The first is streaming from your own hardisk. This was the common way to do this: you rip (i.e. copy) your cds to you rown harddisk, or you buy downloads, and then access those from a device. ...
