About $135 or 10% of price for 4 years. Thoughts on value and necessity. Thanks

4 years is a loong time in digital & you may well upgrade by then even if it works just fine
From my experience and from others that I know who own Oppo, failure rates are few and far between.

My 105 has worked well for the 4 years that I've owned it.  I did wind up calling their customer service a couple of times for issues that turned out not to be related to player.  They were very responsive and helpful.
Oppo gets good marks for product reliability.  I would worry about Marantz or NAD which have less enviable track records and I would save the money
Protection plans and extended warranties are a great money maker for companies and frequently useless for consumers. I always avoid them YMMV.
ptss,

I agree with the others, save your money.   Oppo's quality and support are very good.   My 105 has operated flawlessly for over 2 yrs.   Even if you're unlucky enough to get a rare lemon, you'll likely know it before the basic 2 yr warranty is up and have it replaced anyway.

ptss, personally I wouldn't purchase an extended warranty.

Where are you finding that offer? I do see they have a one year extended warranty for $99. So in this respect, 4 years for $135 could be thought of as a good deal.

According to Consumer Reports, Extended Warrantys on electronics is not in the customers best interest as most of the equipment is obsolete within a couple of years.  I have never bought an extended warranty on any of my new equipment and never really had a problem with anything.  I did get one once on a new car, was naïve and got sucked in by the finance manager.  I remember hearing, its only 46.00 extra a month.
Oppo takes overbuilt to a new level for the price. I know of no other product in its class that can compete in this regard as well as so many other catagories inside one box. I would not purchase it, $135 you can put toward some great cables!! You will need them.

Gdhal, I saw it on a site selling them. Don’t remember now.
Thanks to all for comments.
