Pro-Ject Carbon DC Mat? Platter? Stylus?

If you have $170 to spend I'm pretty certain you will get more noticeable sonic improvement upgrading to the Blue cart than any platter or mat change.

Get the acrylic platter and enjoy for a period.  Then get the Blue stylus and enjoy it too. Don't spend on 3rd party platter mats yet. 

thanks everyone, I think I am going to order both, and try the platter first like you said noromance . One more question, should I get a pair of BlueJeans interconnects or stick with stock? I can get a pair for $52 on amazon

Stock are generally not great. I’m not sure how good the BJ ICs are but I can solidly recommend these. Don’t be put off by the price. These are simply excellent and have demolished $250 ICs in my systems. Clear and transparent with no smoothing away of information. They are not made anymore and are only 6' long. Again, don’t be tempted to bang in all the upgrades in one go.

I ordered the platter and stylus, the dealer was nice enough to say that if i didnt see enough difference with the platter that he would let me return it since it was a stock item.

I have a Project Carbon Esprit I ordered about 8 months ago. It came with the acrylic platter and I got the blue cart upgrade, a $28 cork mat and AudioQuest Big Sur interconnects. I'm very pleased with it but I see a new Black cart in my near future.
