Radio interference caused by power cord?

Hi guys,

When my Resolution Audio CD50 is left on, my NAD 7175PE gets very poor radio reception. If I pull the antenna wire away from the back of the unit towards the front it gets better. If I turn off the CD player the static goes away. This leads me to believe this is being caused by the power cord. Does that ring true? It’s especially interesting when this is going on because the display will show 4 or 5 bars of strong reception but there will be no sound or static depending on the station.

What is the best, least expensive way to shield this interference? I like to leave the CD50 on because it sounds much better warmed up. Should I just move the antenna wire or is this causing degredations in sound from other sources as well? ie new power cord, or a shield for the power cord, or is it something else entirely?

Thanks for your help!

The player is generating RFI and it may be moving back into the AC power system.
It may also be radiating through the interconnect cables..
Is you CD player powercord removable?
Hi @elizabeth thanks for your response - yes the power cord is removable from the CD player.
As an additional piece of the info - on the back of the CD player next to the power input is a sticker labeled “200-240VAC”. I saw this on the photos before I purchased it and inquired with the A’goner who sold it to me - he said that it was actually a 110V unit. And it works fine indeed in my NY home - however, could this have something to do with it?
I know Pangea powercords are completely shielded.
I have a small RFI detector and most AC cords make it go crazy..
Pangea powercords the detector is silent even at max level right on the cord body.
The come in IEC or the smaller 8 shape plugs.
They are only sold at Audio Advisor. They are always ’on sale’ so actually that sale price is just the real price all the time. LOL

The 240 sticker may be for sale in the EU.
In Europe they often use 240 v and no, the transformer inside may have different wires to allow the various voltages. They will not be causing it at all.
The devices inside may be not guaranteed for the US market. There are actual US laws saying digital equipment cannot interfere with radio stuff.
Perhaps the prior owner messed with some chip devices inside?
Have you tried grounding the CD player chassis to AC ground?

What exactly do you mean by "antenna wire?" Is it a wire that goes from your receiver to an actual antenna? Or, is it just a wire, perhaps connected with a short lead to a cheap 300 ohm wire dipole. If the latter, that's probably your problem, and you'd be better off connecting to an actual antenna, located up and away from your receiver, preferably through good shielded 75 ohm cable.
@elizabeth thanks for that reco!

Would you say there is a noticeable difference between the AC 14SE MKII and the  AC 14 Power Cables?

Differences would depends more on the equipment.. but yes the AC14SE is better than the AC14.
Most of my Pangea are the AC9 and AC9SE.
The AC-14SE MkII has a lower noise-floor and it's a very noticeable improvement.
Got the AC-14SE MkII power cord yesterday - didn’t fix the RFI issue. It did, however, noticeably improve the CD player’s performance. Sounds cleaner, clearer with more height to the soundstage, more timbre to the instruments. I was a power cord skeptic, now I’m a believer. Thanks for the recommendation.

Now to fix this RFI interference...
