recommendation needed-upgrade power receptacle- monster power htps7000 outlet 15amp or 20
Hello,
I need recommendations for a new power outlet. Looking to spend $70 or less.
(I studied electro-mechanical engineering so you're not going to convince me I
need a $500 outlet)
I am replacing an outlet on my Monster Power HTPS7000 power center.
I am replacing a 15amp 125V outlet on the high current bank. One center screw,
rounded outlets.
Looking at Hubbell and PSAudio and LEVITON outlets. 15 amp or 20 amp, hospital
grade simply because my power cords are heavy!!
I see no reason why a hospital grade 20amp would be a problem even though the
previous was only 15amp.
Thoughts...?
Also, I am open to other brands as well, it must shape like the one pictured.

Thanks for the help!
Audiogon member AlbertPorter sells a very nice outlet called the Porter Port here on Audiogon.https://www.audiogon.com/listings/lis99a26-porter-port-porter-port-outlets-cryo-various-colors-ac-di... |
+1 for the Porter Port. @ stevethe4th Looking at your picture showing the duplex cutout space for the receptacle you are replacing I see the 7000 metal chassis is earth grounded and a grounding pigtail is bonded to the chassis for connection to the equipment ground terminal screw on the duplex receptacle. This will make/configure the Porter Port IG (Hubbell HBL5362 IG ,Isolated Ground) as regular grounding type duplex receptacle, which is what you want for the wiring design of the 7000. |
I would also recommend the Porter Ports or these from Voo-Doo Audio. http://voodoocable.net/product/voodoo-ubbell-audio-grade-ac-outlet/ Chuck |
CZBBCL-- Am I correct in saying that is the standard HUBBELL outlet, and voo-doo just cryo treats it correct? I could care less about the wall plate. I might actually go with that If it's just cryo-treated, that way I can compare it to the same outlet NON-cryo-treated. My local grainger sells those non-treated. Same with the Porter Ports, I actually wrote him to see if it would work, and the porter port will, but same thing there-- standard $5.00 outlet, just cryo-treated. Pangea-- regular or premier, looks like there is a $100 model and a $50 model. Thanks for all the suggestions |
stevethe4th OP36 posts01-04-2019 7:00pm $5.00? Where? Not at Grainger even at their cost. Their retail price for the outlet is $39.80. https://www.grainger.com/category/electrical-supplies/electrical/ecatalog/N-q9s?refineSearchString=h... For those of you that may be following this thread and are interested is purchasing a Hubbell 5362 outlet you need to do your homework before buying. First the Hubbell pro line brand is a cheaper product line designed and manufactured to compete with other manufacturer’s cheaper lines. You have to know what to look for, and what you want, when buying Hubbell outlets. The better Extra Heavy Duty Industrial Series outlets. Best are non nickel plated contacts with a non plated brass supporting back strap. Some have nickel plated contacts with a nickel plated brass supporting back strap for corrosion resistance. Some now have galvanized steel back straps, such as the HBL8200H and 8300H hospital grade outlets. (Neither nickel plating or galvanized steel back strap are good for audio) Some use the deeper body to support the electrical contacts and others use the slim Compact body. Example of the deep body Extra Heavy Duty Industrial Series IG5362 outlet. https://www.cesco.com/Hubbell-Wiring-IG5362-Hubbell-IG5362-Extra-Heavy-Duty-Specification-Grade-Isol... Example of the Compact body Extra Heavy Duty Industrial Series IG5362 outlet. https://www.amazon.com/Hubbell-IG5362-Duplex-Receptacle/dp/B00KNQRYVO What can you expect to hear from your audio system using the outlets? From my personal listening experience the compact body is a neutral natural sounding outlet. The deeper body outlet leans to the warm side. I also replaced the outlets on MY OWN Monster 7000 with Pass & Seymour heavy duty 20 amp duplex. They have great grip that lasts.. cost $5 each. If I wanted some upgrade from a normal outlet, Hubble cryoed sold here on the goN'. or Acme silver plated... I sold the Monster years ago. And now use a Furman REF 20 with all Furutech duplex installed. |
