Thiel Owners

Guys-

I just scored a sweet pair of CS 2.4SE loudspeakers. Anyone else currently or previously owned this model?
Owners of the CS 2.4 or CS 2.7 are free to chime in as well. Thiel are excellent w/ both tubed or solid-state gear!

Keep me posted & Happy Listening!

Hello. I've got the normal  CS 2.4's. I've read that to attain the SE upgrade (or at least most of it?). A couple capacitors are changed in the crossover. I'm am having a tough time finding the DIY post that gives the most current up to date and correct info. Would it be possible for one of you nice chaps to show a link?  It would be much appreciated.
Jafant,

im glad to see another member running BAT pre with SS amp on the Thiels. I run a BAT VK3ix pre with a Parasound A21. I know that the Parasound isn't a fancy hi end name, but man this thing drives the speakers with ease without any obvious tonal issues.

I went through a few amps to arrive at the Parasound and it will be the next piece I may upgrade. All I know is that combined with my VPI Prime is does make some amazing sound.
Jafant,

i use Purist Audio Design, Venustas Rev1 for the speaker cable, Venustas Rev 1 for the phono cable and Cardas Clear Light balanced cables for everything else.
Michaeljbrown,

sorry for getting to you so late. With regards to my BAT pre - I like love it. Tubes + SS on Thiel speakers is the perfect synergy. At least from my perspective.
Guys I need a bit of unbiased advice. That may be a stretch here;)

Im considering upgrading my caps to SE spec on my CS2.4's.

im sure the SE guys will jump in and say do it but before I do I'd like to hear your thoughts since there is a bit of risk doing this myself and I'm not sure what the benefits will be.

First off I've never listened and thought - I need more clarity. I have thought need more mid bass. My understanding is frequency response doesn't change but clarity does.

Ive never heard the SE's either.

I can can get the parts for $400 bucks, assuming I do the work myself is this upgrade worth it?   Mind you I'm no expert with soldering and will need to YouTube how to solder to bring my skills up to speed.  I can solder two cables together or to a binding post, but I've never soldered to a board.
Thank you for y’all’s responses. I think what I’m going to do is go ahead and wait for the full kit be complete then I can do it all at once and be confident in my choice thank you!
Is anybody else using or have used a Parasound aA21 on the cA2.4’s. I use a one for years.  I’d be interested in what others thought. Specifically about how the amp and bass response were handled.
I have found the Parasound A21 does an admirable job for my 2.4’s. I wish someone with my same amp and speakers would speak up. I’d love to hear their thoughts.
Those who listen primarily to vinyl, what cartridges have you found mate well with the 2.4’s as not to give them an overly bright presentation?
Hey guys. Have had my CS 2.4’s for many years now and have always felt they needed a bit more midbass. Well, I sent my BAT VK-3ix Preamp out for the Six-Pak modification from the factory.

Just hooked it up, and WOW it’s like a new set of speakers. Midrange is “here” and midbass is clean and correct. Lower bass is more pronounced.  Dynamics are way better too. In fact this is the best thing I’ve done to get these speakers sounding the way I wanted. I almost don’t need the REL subwoofer!
About 7 1/2 feet apart I sit it 8 feet away and the speakers are  3 feet from the front wall
last_lemmingGood to see you again. Thank You for the update. My understanding about owning B.A.T. gear is to obtain that Six-Pack Modification. You own a very nice system. How do you like the Parasound/B.A.T. combo?
Happy Listening
!

The Parasound is better than ever now, but I think the reason has to do with the output/input matching of impedance of the preamp and amp.  I think the Six-Pak helped that relationship somehow.

I thought when I paired the BAT with the Parasound amp I was good, the stats as I understand them are:

The output impedance of the BAT is 1k ohm  (the manual says the amp must have a min. of 10k ohm input.

The Input for balanced connection on the Parasound is 66k ohm
