Whats playing on your system today?

Today I decided to listen to two of my favorite rock guitar heros and one great vocalist. Guitarist' Robin Trower, Ronnie Montrose and vocalist Davey Pattison.

I listened to Trower songs:
Bridge of sighs, Stitch in time, The fool and me, my personal favorite- Too rolling stoned and others.....

Then I pulled out "Gamma".
I listened to: Razor King, Wish I was and Skin and bone and others.....

Davey Pattison hooked has also up with Michael Shenker also. I really enjoyed my day so far. Anybody else heard anything good?

arcam88,

I began this thread began with Ronnie Montrose and Gamma as it's first post just about two years ago. That is a great albumn.  Actually all of the Gamma's are good!

Cécile McLorin Savant Dreams and Daggers
Clifford Brown Memorial Album NY pressing
Johnny Coles Little Johnny C Music Matters Jazz pressing
Miles Davis Someday My Prince Will Come 6 eye Columbia pressing
Other than "Farewell to Kings" (which is great), I haven't really gotten into their music much. I will say that what they do, they do well, just not my style of music.

Boredoms / Super Roots, VI
Megadeth - Greatest Hits
Incubus - Make Yourself (top notch recording) 😎!
John Wait - Temple Bar
Marillion - Early Stages
Chevelle - Sci-fi Crimes
It is a very regional and now 'oldies' sort of thing. Mostly just an interesting side note to Motown.

And now for something completely different:

Currently listening to Rush - Signals. Also not beach music. A good but not great album in my opinion. It is also the last Rush album I ever bought. I have not liked a single song they did since that album. Glad they were successful with subsequent albums and glad they have a fan base who likes those albums and I'm still very fond of Rush...just Signals and earlier.
n80, Interesting that it goes back to the 50's. Also interesting that my wife and I have spent a lot of time in that very area (vacationing) over the last 20+ years & never heard the term (LOL). Thank You

The Good, The Bad, & The Queen

Boxer12, beach music is a regional variation of Motown type music from the southern U.S. coast, primarily the Myrtle Beach area. It originated in the 50's and 60's. The shag, which originated in Ocean Drive just north or Myrtle Beach is the dance associated with beach music.

Bands like The Drifters, The Temptations, The Embers, The Tams, The Four Tops, The Chairman of the Board, Maurice Williams and the Zodiacs.

Quite a few of these bands had Motown careers (The Temptations obviously) in addition to music they wrote and arranged as 'beach music' and some crossed over.

Stax and Atlantic Records were major labels for beach music.

Some famous beach tunes:

Carolina Girls – General Johnson

With this Ring – Platters

I Love Beach Music – Embers

My Girl – Temptations

Sixty Minute Man – Billy Ward

Under the Boardwalk – Drifters

Miss Grace – Tymes

Summertime is Calling Me – Catalinas

Myrtle Beach Days – Fantastic Shakers

What You Do To Me – Embers

 39-21-46 – Showmen

You’re More Than a Number in My Little Red Book – Drifters

Be Young, Be Foolish, Be Happy – Tams

She Used to be my Girl – O’Jays

Build Me Up Buttercup – Foundations

Girl Watcher – O’Kaysions

Some Kind of Wonderful – The Band of Oz

The radio. Over the airwaves not the internet. WRBK. Little private station in the middle of nowhere. Listening to "On the Beach" with Charlie Brown.

Any of you folks know what beach music is?
Fences - Sadie

Want to say 'thank you' to everyone slapping me around these last few months telling me to start streaming.
Me and my old ways, ouch, I finally cut the cord to FM. No doubt it was time, two local college stations that constantly pushed their political agendas all day long...*laffs

Anyways...cheers
boxer12,Sparklehorse is an interesting band for sure.I'm always hunting for new music to enjoy,so thanks!I was listening to some of their stuff on YouTube then got sidetracked with old Smothers Brothers videos......
