It looks like the Tekton Pendragons are being spec'd with the 8 ohm driver on the website now.
Thanks, Genjamon. I take it you still have the Lores? Have you heard any other models since acquiring them?
Capellaudio -- I just read through this entire thread and I see you got the Pendragons but I wanted you to know that I heard the GoldenEar Tech speakers (Triton IIs) in both HT and 2-channel setups and I thought they were better suited for HT.

In the HT setup, they were driven by an Integra receiver and the room was huge (can't even begin to estimate the volume). In the 2-channel setup, they were in a treated room, maybe 16x12, powered by an all-McIntosh front-end, and I have to say, while the bass was good, the top-end seemed too rolled off for my tastes. Sandy Gross was there at the 2-channel demo and I'd think he'd have had a little bit to say about the set-up and the placement of the speakers, if not the gear used.

I have heard them three times and I don't get all the rave professional reviews they have received. This is my opinion only, or course, so here's hoping you are finding success with the Pendragons.

Cwazz, on the other hand, if you are looking for bass, the Triton IIs might be what you are looking for. While a step-up in price, they deliver very good base at their pricepoint.

After several months of suggestions from other members, it doesn't seem as if you have tried to implement any of their suggestions so maybe changing up speakers is what you need to do. Personally I think your room itself needs to be addressed first, but see if you can at least auditon a pair of Triton IIs.
...ideot!

Honestly, this is the funniest post in the whole thread. While I don't know if Zmanastronomy made a typo or if he was having a bit of fun but when I read that, I could hear some Frenchman verbalizing this in accented English.

Audiovile, too bad you didn't get the joke.
One other thing, from the photos included in his review, the BMW's Cyber Grey Metallic paint scheme seems to match up well with the color of the Eminence driver whose color I have never quite cared for much.
Not sure this'll work, but I've pulled a bit more together:

another way to do it would be to jump directly to http://parttimeaudiophile.com

Nice write-up. Thanks for spending some time with these. I especially enjoyed the amp comparisons.
Now, I wish I could lay claim to the review. Heck, I might even start a Blog or become a publisher but the credit goes to Socrates7. Now, if someone has an extra pair of Pendragons just lying around, I'll be happy to review them too.
A little bit off-topic but I'd like to take a minute to congratulate Socrates7 for being tapped by Tone Audio to cover the New York Audio Show in April.

In case you haven't read it yet, Socrates7 has written up a very nice review on his blog of the Pendragons, some of which he has reproduced earlier in this thread. You can find his musings here:

Part One: Introducing the Tekton Pendragon “Option II and
Part II: Digging in to the Tekton Pendragon
At moderate and lower volumes they are very pleasing.

OK, so given the music genres you listen to, how would you describe them at higher volumes?
Comments that this speaker is not for those who listen to compressed pop music and that the speaker is desgined to sound like "live music" concerns me some because I do listen to pop music from time-to-time and I don't want to force myself to buy music that only works with a certain type of speaker as I am looking for a speaker that does well with the kinds of music I like.

All the reviews speak highly of these speakers, though. So, just to be clear: Does the speaker call attention to itself or can we expect a good balance between detail, air, soundstage, sparkle and decay?

I know the best thing is to listen to them myself but thanks to anyone who addresses whether these speakers will be altogether too unforgiving except for only the best recorded material.
Batch, Nicodemix, and Bc63, thanks for the replies. It's doubtful I will ever move to a vinyl set-up so it's CDs, and eventually streaming for me.

Batch, the comment on Lady Gaga and LMFAO had me LMFAO. Would I listen to that kind of music crtically? No, but when I am working around the house, I can see myself listening to a compliation that would include material by both.

I understand that the better speakers will always reveal poorly recorded material for it is. I just don't want something that is uber-detailed and it seems like you all have addressed that point rather nicely. Thanks again.

I suppose the better approach for me is to order both the standard and Seas-based version and see which suits me best.
Just got around to reading Andrew Robinson's review of the Pendragon. An interesting take on them.

He seems to suggest he is purchasing the pendragons. I might be reading too much into it but he does say they are now his "new reference loudspeaker against which all future loudspeakers, regardless of cost, will be judged". I don't know if that means he is keeping them, along with his Bowers & Wilkins 800 Series Diamonds.

That's two reviews of a Tekton speaker he has done. One day, I'd like to see him take on one upgraded with the Mundorf caps.
Eric is now offering a Pendragon center, rear and dual 12″ subwoofer. Not much info yet. They aren't on his products page -- you'll need to go to his Blog for more info although I have read elsewhere the center is offered at $800.
Scutterflux (or anyone with hands-on experience with changing out crossovers, caps, resistors, etc.):

I suppose it depends on the speaker, but specifically with the Tektons, how difficult is it to change out these components? If one doesn't like the change, how close is reverting back to stock going to get one back to the original sound? It seems to me that replacing components back and forth is still a change from its original configuration. Kind of like the Heidenberg principle...
I stepped away from this thread for a month after making my post about Glenn Beck talking about Tekton only to come back to read some really amazing comments. Amazing in that I only mention about Glenn talking about Tekton, nothing else in my post, certainly nothing political, and then a firestorm of negative comments from some people. People who obviously did not take the time to actually listen to his comments. People who evidently are pretty closed-minded.

To summarize Glenn's comments - the audio clip runs 9:34. He spends the first minute and half simply talking about how amazing the speakers sounded to him and his staff. He then spends another two and a half minutes talking about his conversation with Eric, the designer of the speakers, and the balance of the clip is about how wonderful it is to find really good craftsmanship, and how important it is for one to find one's calling in life and then to commit to it - taking pride and ownership in whatever it is that one commits to. I figure about 6 seconds are political.

Surely, those who sniped in this thread could find common ground with those ideas?

Anyway, it's too bad the thread was momentarily derailed. I wanted to share the clip because I agree with those who think Eric is making something really special.
Since this is pretty much the defacto thread for all things Tekton, I thought I would mention Eric has posted a pic of his new Pendragon HT system. No info other than a pic - he mentions to call him directly for more info. I have not had any problems in getting through to him when I have called.

Andrew Robinson has recently posted that he will soon be reviewing a Pendragon Theater system. Outside of this thread, he has been my go-to source for information on Tekton speakers.
I don't know if it is a full and complete review or just the beginning, albeit a very substantial introduction, but Andrew Robinson's review of the 7.2 Tekton Pendragon Theater System is now up. I recommend the video clip he incorporates into the review for anyone jumping over to read his thoughts.

Unlike every review on any piece of equipment I have every read, he doesn't actually spend any time discussing specific movies or music. He does spend time discussing the application of this kind of system to one's own room, including noteworthy comments about the challenges using the surrounds might pose and a brief evaluation of the sub-woofers performance, or slightly lack thereof.

For a time, this was one of the hottest threads on AudiogoN. Why it cooled, I don't know. For me, I was interested in purchasing the Pendragons. Maybe it was the delays some (many?) customers were experiencing in getting speakers delivered, that played a part. It did for me: I went in a completely different direction and purchased a pair of Ohm 5000s. I am very happy with these speaker, but I digress.

I still want to reconfigure completely my HT set-up and I have decided to reconsider once again Tekton, this time the Lore S - thinking at least 3 (LCR) but maybe five all around.

By all accounts, Tekton speakers are great speakers but I still don't know what to expect. Delivery seems to still be hit or miss with some waiting a few weeks to 3 months (which is, IMHO, not unreasonable at all for custom-made speakers), to many months - which is not so good.

The only way to know for sure if the wait is worth it is to hear for myself so if there is anyone within a day's driving distance of Charlotte, NC (that would include Chicago, DC, Atlanta, Orlando) who'd be willing to allow a home audition of either of the Pendragons or Lores, or the Enzo, I'd appreciate it.

BTW, some of the best reviews of Tekton speakers I have ever read can be found over at Part-time Audiophile. I've recommended his reviews before in this thread. He now has a recent review of the Pendragon S and his Maggies 3.7 mated with a number of different amps. In my estimation, it is one of the best audio reviews of any kind ever written.

You can read the review, "Magnepan and Tekton meet Pass Labs, Odyssey, Job, Merrill, Red Wine Audio, First Watt and Vitus Audio" here.
Genjamon,

IIRC, you corresponded with Eric about your mods. If not you, apologies, then it was someone else who also modded some speakers.

Did he end up adapting any of your work into later iterations of any of his speakers? Or put another way, is Eric amenable to doing mods, maybe even similar to what you did, on speakers one orders?

I think I would rather listen to the speakers in stock form first, but NOT being a DIY kind of guy, if I wanted to mod, my options would be to either send speakers back to him or find someone else who would.
Those comments would probably have sealed the deal for me and I would have placed an order for 5 or maybe three plus two Mini-Lores today. Had planned on using my bonus plus tax refund to make it happen - until, that is, my wife (and much better half, lost her job in October and is still (!) looking for work. Sigh.

I'll just need to live vicariously through other people's comments for awhile longer.
