open headphones AND speakers = Wow

I'm sure this is committing audiophile debauchery of some sort... but have you ever tried listening to your headphones and your speakers at the same time? I forgot to turn my bedroom amp off, so I was listening to my Senn 650 and my VS VR1 simultaneously. The sound is awesome! You get all the detail and the resolution from the headphones, but also get the body and "soundstage" from the speakers. Give it a try sometime, if you dare...

Have to admit I have done the same once accidentally too.
Thought someone had supercharged my headphones until I twigged what I had done!

May just have to revisit deliberately although I generally only reach for the cans late at night so as not to disturb the household.
I'll also admit to heresy.

I've listened to many a CD with both the speakers and my STAX Lambda Pro headphones.  Interesting, especially organ music with lots of bass and large-scale  choral works.

Like uberwaltz, I also use them late at night, as one of my next-door neighbors must have "bat-ears," so I turn down the sound after 10 :00 pm and grab the cans.

Ya! Headphone will never give you taht very deep bass and with a little work and play, you can find some great, if unconventional sounds entering from within and without. Open headphones are a must for this Franken-voyage. :)
Have fun enjoy the music... to many tight asses here at times. :P
I have 650's as well, and think they are quite wonderful...  I have a dedicated amp for them which is fully balanced and use high end Cardas balanced cables for the connection.  I don't know if there is a speaker that is better.
