In theory at least....................

SONY MUSIC ANNOUNCES NEW BOB DYLAN SUPER AUDIO CD (SACD) SERIES
January 10, 2003
LAS VEGAS (CES, Booth #N109), Jan. 10, 2003 -- Sony Music
Entertainment (SME) today announced it will be releasing a new series of
classic albums by Columbia Records artist Bob Dylan on hybrid Super Audio CD
(SACD) this Fall. The announcement was made by Jeff Jones, Senior Vice
President, Legacy Recordings during a special SACD reception sponsored by
Sony and Philips at the 2003 Consumer Electronics Show (CES).

The Bob Dylan titles mark the beginning of an ongoing program to
enhance and upgrade the sonic quality and packaging elements of the Dylan
catalog. These 15 titles are also the first Sony Music recordings to be
released on hybrid SACD and will be produced on a new hybrid disc
replication line that is scheduled to be launched in May, 2003 at Sony Disc
Manufacturing's U.S. flagship facility in Terre Haute, Indiana. The 15
titles comprise many iconic titles from Dylan's canon: Free Wheelin';
Another Side of Bob Dylan; Bringing It All Back Home; Highway 61 Revisited;
John Wesley Harding; Nashville Skyline; Blood On The Tracks; Desire; Slow
Train Coming; Infidels; Oh Mercy; Time Out Of Mind; Love and Theft; Royal
Albert Hall and Street Legal.

"The release of these classic Bob Dylan albums on hybrid SACD will
extend the benefits of this exciting format to a much wider audience,"
stated Jeff Jones. "Each of these Dylan titles will be reissued in stereo,
and they will be carefully remastered and reproduced to the highest quality
standards." The entire series of reissues will be remastered by Greg Calbi,
Senior Mastering Engineer at Sterling Sound in New York, whose credits
include John Lennon's Walls and Bridges and Bruce Springsteen's Born to Run
albums.

To date, Sony Music has released approximately 200 SACD titles
including nearly 60 in multichannel surround sound. During the first quarter
of this year, Sony Music will be releasing a variety of other stereo and
multichannel SACD titles including Aerosmith's Toys In The Attic; James
Taylor's Flag and Dad Loves His Work; and a new album by Macy Gray.

Thanks so much Ben for sharing the "Dylan SACD-good news". I guess it is time to look for an SACD player. I have yet to dive into the SACD format. Now I have good reason to do so. I guess I will be owning two CDP players. I can't think of a better reason putting off SACD any longer now that Dylan is or has released these masterpieces.
Do you believe Dylans SACD recordings are that much better than the regular CDs? I am more than willing to purchase an SACD player if Bob Dylans recording genius and sound quality is just marginally better. Until now I have had no urge or reason to own an SACD player. If you are telling me that I will have Bob Dylan sounding better than ever, I can't think of no better reason not to invest in an SACD player. Thanks again for sharing this news. I am in you debt.

Well Brulee only time will tell.
I have a Sony DVPns900 which can only be probably described as a moderate player (I'm trying to put this statement in context obviously there are better SACD players about) with and have found SACD overall perhaps to be a little disappointing but I will say I have found that the only SACD disc I have on a recent recording does show the type of improvement I was hoping for(David Bowie- Heathen).
I think this shows the potential is there.
On the only related discs are the Stones reissues which have so far been released (I haven't heard Blonde On Blonde )I found the difference between the SACD layer and the CD layer to be marginal with the nod going to the CD one!
However what I've heard of The Stones discs they do sound great on either layer, they have been remastered very well.
Since most of Dylan's catalogue could do with a brush up I would say we can't lose.

And maybe SME will finally release all those other Dylan goodies lying around in their vaults!

Brulee, if you have a TT, try the new mono Dylan issues from Sundazed. You'll get Bob in the room.

If you haven't heard SACD or DVDA, please go to a local dealer for a demo....it might just save you a lot of cash and dissapointment.
