I remember when the Obelisk was first 'rolled out'; a nifty design...small, 'well-voiced' (IMHO), and a pleasant departure from it's 'peers' of that era....  wasn't in my 'price range' at the time, but one of those that got my attention and respec...
@inna Tell me your speakers and I'll tell you who you are
@inna & the OP....*G*  This strikes me as a form of reading tea leaves or the lines in ones' palms...'subject to interpretation'. ;)...but I'll 'lurk' and watch....*S*  Please do continue...
Static Electricity on Vinyl
Curious about the Furutech, I followed the link.........I think I'll keep what I've got....Nagaoka Kilavolt #103.  Bought it sometime in the mid 80's for about twice what Zerostats were going for...Still works.  I have to remember to change the C ...
My rant; we don't know what we don't know
...once upon a time I was blissfully ignorant. Then I learned that I was merely ignorant, and lost my bliss.I've finally learned that I was ignorant to lose my bliss.I also learned the meaning of 'conundrum'.....;)
Why is the snake oil topic closed?
" Debussy understood that a work of artOr an effort to create beauty, was always regarded by some people as a personal attack."...one's 'snake oil' may be another's 'essential oil'...and vice-versa, of course...Any attempts at humour can be constr...
Best way to decrease the internal volume of a sealed speaker?
Trex....yeah, better than that pesky cellular stuff....good call. *G*The problem with those " quantum mechanical devices" is, if it 'goes south' (or Whatever 'direction' one wants to call That...) is that parts are just insane to procure....it's ...
The midrange is the most important driver.
"Dimensional Purity......I love that. Have no ideal what it means but it sounds so audiophile that I feel like I should believe it. "....*LOL*Absolutely...but I'm stuck between wanting to get on the street with a protest sign and a bullhorn...or.....
Not much discussion around MBL
(...backing up to audiotroys' comments...)Well...yes, omnis Do Require some careful consideration and care when setting them up in any space.  One way to view it is to consider how one might build a stage for performances in a given space for a li...
Can a Quality Full Range Speaker be the Limiting Component in a system?
soundsreal, and y'all....instead of thinking that speakers are a limiting factor (unless they Are utter dreck...*L*), I like to approach them as having different 'voicing', much like us....  Anyone can, say, read Shakespeare out loud.  But the num...
Best way to decrease the internal volume of a sealed speaker?
Oz, I'm not a big fan of Liquid Nails...I'd suggest a tube of 'fast set' silicone caulk, applied 'bout the diameter of toothpaste... Somewhat 'stinky' (acetic acid, a.k.a. vinegar...*L* Fades away soon enough...) but not toxic to you or electronic...
Best way to decrease the internal volume of a sealed speaker?
Oz, FlexSeal does contain 'aliphatic petroleum solvent' & 'liquified petroleum gas'...so save it for your roof or 'cutting/repairing boats' ( right, sure...)....;)Black Hole does sound like a win...I'd coat the interior with a white latex firs...
Can a Quality Full Range Speaker be the Limiting Component in a system?
MHO...no.The physics of the speaker preclude 'accurate' reproduction over a bandwidth that relates to the range of human hearing.  Now, by 'accurate', I'm referring to a 'ruler flat' line that would appear on a piece of test equipment.  These devi...
RIP Arnie Nudell
I remember the 'early' Infinities, and watching/listening to them grow into the 'watermarks' they became.  Even got to own some...*S*But legends become history...and we get to mark their passing.RIP, Arnie...and Thanks....and thanks for that comme...
Another Free Tip That Yields Better Sound!
Best response is to become disembodied for any 'serious listening event'.  Astral projection IS a little hard to accomplish, but once you get the hang of it, you'll never go back to being 'present'.  Works great at concerts...you're not limited to...
'Quietest place on Earth' anechoic chamber
We're so used to being 'immersed' in sounds that the lack of is truly an alien experience....Spouse and I were traveling and happened to stop for a night along a country road in mid North Dakota.  Two cars happened to drive by beforel nightfall, a...
