Linn Audio
That's the polarizing part.  Owners of upgraded LP12s maintain that their tables compete with the best, while many knowledgeable turntable people disagree, usually very strongly.  Better off discussing religion or politics than the LP12.  One amaz...
Linn Audio
I think Linn people gravitate towards the Linn forum.  Same with Naim.  Very little discussion here about either.  There are a lot of LP12 lovers here, but they tend to get shot down so there's no sense posting.  The LP12 is a very polarizing subj...
How good is your hearing ? And how do you know ?
I think the OP's question is a bit ambiguous.  One's hearing may be physically impaired due to age, injury or whatever.  But I think the OP means ability to differentiate between a merely good system and a very good system, i.e, one that is capabl...
Turntable isolation
I’m not sure that any table can withstand very springy floors. My Linn was horrible in this regard, but totally cured by a wall shelf. My current Basis is better than the Linn, but one would have to tread very, very lightly. Again - wall shelf mou...
mapleshade cable recomendations
I tried their regular speaker cables a long time ago and found they had a high degree of clarity.  I think they would work well in a system that is perhaps a bit boomy or lacking in midrange/vocal clarity.
Best Loudspeakers for Rich Timbre?
Sound is not in technicolor.  But it sounds like you are looking for warmer speakers.  Harbeths are good for that.  Too many audiophiles assemble systems lacking in midbass warmth and then complain about it later.
REGA RP6Turntable mat
Depending on your ears and the resolution of your system, all mats will sound different.  Partially because of the way it either dampens the record (like felt) couples the record with a platter similar to vinyl, such as Basis, or leaves the record...
SAT 30K+$$ TONEARM: W O R T H T O H A V E I T ?
It was meant to be tongue in cheek.  I have to work on my subtlety.
SAT 30K+$$ TONEARM: W O R T H T O H A V E I T ?
People like distortion.  Hence the popularity of tube amps.  I have one myself.
Stands, to couple, or not to couple, contradicting products and positive reviews
Yeah, but Geoff, who's to say the OP will like the sound?  The OP is asking which is "right" - to couple or isolate.  It's certainly worth trying both, but he might like the sound of just putting the speakers on the floor.  When I had my Operas, I...
Stands, to couple, or not to couple, contradicting products and positive reviews
IMO, in a domestic living environment, there is absolutely no way to predict the sonic effects of coupling, decoupling, spikes, gliders...I have had many different speakers in my home and needed to work with each one to find the most pleasing soni...
Oppo 205 modification
From my experience with Naim equipment several years ago, I can tell you that you cannot imagine the improvement a better power supply makes to a CD player, even with nothing else changed.  Same thing with a preamp.  It is not just a little better...
Recommendations for CDP < $300
Onkyo makes good products.  I think at the price point your talking about, I wouldn't agonize over it.
The Best Piano Works of the 20th Century
I don't know about being the greatest anything, but Stravinsky wrote some good stuff for solo piano.  I really like this record and recommend it to anyone who is remotely interested in solo piano stuff. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Marie-Francoise-Buc...
System Cable Capacitance Question from a New Audiophile
I honestly think you are over-analyzing the situation. Most modern cables are made with low resistance and capacitance, so just pick up a modestly-priced cable from Signal Cable, Morrow or Clear Day and forget about it for now. By far, one of the ...
