Jolida JD-100 vs. Ayre CX-7E
Had my Jolida for a number of years, and it has performed flawlessly and musically. It's not the last thing in detail, there are others much more expensive that will be more revealing.I can understand how some may find JD100 units uninspired, that...
Anti-Diffraction Surrounds for Speaker Tweeters
I guesstimate that theses dense wool felt surrounds are about 1/3" - to 1/2". I don't have a specialized machine to make the precise cuts that Jim provided. Also, I've never seen this particular thickness of material in any store.
To Former owners of Jolida JD 100
I've owned a JD-100 for a couple years and have no ticking / transport noise at all. Also, I've rolled a number of tubes in the unit, and finally settled on a pair of Sylvania Gold Label JHS 5751WA triple mica blackplates. In my system, and to my ...
What tubes are you using in your Jolida JD 100?
Tubes I've rolled in the JD-100:Sylvania JHS Gold Label 5751WAs (I finally settled on using these, very palpable 3D sound, wonderfully detailed, etc. - great but pricey tubes); the stock Jolida 12AX7s (ech!); Sovtek 12AX7LPS (not a good fit for th...
CIA D200's Vs. Odyssey Stratos Extreme Monos ?
Musicalmaniac,I, too, own Odyssey Extreme Monos. Re: burn-in - I'd give them a solid 400 hours of playing music (I used an older, dual-well cassette deck and let it run constantly during the burn-in period.). I agree with Mdhoover - "you're going ...
Parasound, McCormick, Odyssey - best under $1000
Odyssey Mono Extreme amps are right there with the DNA amps.
amp or amps for Polk SDA 1 & SDA 2
I'm using Groneberg cables. I use Groneberg TS premium and Quattro Ref ICs with my Odyssey Extreme Monos / Tempest preamp, so I guess there's some type of synergy going there (Odyssey uses Groneberg cable internally). I also note I use Walker SST ...
Jolida JD100A, How to bring it to the next level
Mods/accessories for my JD-100 are as follows:1) JHS Gold Label Sylvania 5751WA triple mica black plates, 2) Chris VenHaus cryoed Flavor 1 PC, 3) Herbie's Hal-O 9 tube dampers and Grungebuster CD mat,4) Unit rests on a 22 lb. granite slab supporte...
amp or amps for Polk SDA 1 & SDA 2
I have a pair of SDA 1Cs that I previously powered with a cap-upgraded Odyssey Audio Stratos. I recently upgraded to Odyssey's Extreme Monos, and while still in the process of burning in the monos, I can say the enhanced sound of this combination ...

Perreaux 200iP 200 wpc Vs Odyssey Stratos
A point of clarification in my post of 7/7/05. I contacted Polk, who stated that due to the age of my speakers, the tweeter protection devices probably need replacing. Polk's sent a pair for me to install. Thus, there was NOT an issue with the Str...
Perreaux 200iP 200 wpc Vs Odyssey Stratos
I had a Stratos w/cap upgrade (also currently run Tempest/JD-100 in conjunction w/modified Polk SDA-1Cs), and recently upgraded to a pair of Odyssey Extreme Monos. IMHO - the Extremes had plenty of power to run your Ushers. The reason I upgraded to...
Amazing ''Overachieving'' products...your pick?
1) Jolida JD-100. No brainer. Here's an easy recipe: juice the tubes to NOS 5751s; switch the PC to something like a Chris VenHaus Flavor 1; hit the tube pins, RCAs, and PC/IEC prongs with Walker SST; and add a bit of isolation (granite, marble, m...
Jolida 100 cdp
I second Aball's opinion on the Sylvania triple mica blackplates 5751s. I note I picked up a pair of Sylvania Gold Label JHS 5751WA to use in my Jolida. I subsequently acquired a back up pair of Sylvania Yellow Label JHS 5751WA about a year later ...
What's the oldest piece of gear in your system?
Fisher 800-B receiver (1961), currently in use as my system's tuner while I contemplate using it as the center of a modest bedroom system. I received this pristine unit from my dad who no longer had use for it. IMHO, a beautifully made piece of tu...
