Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
@halcro All their P77 cartridges had the raised lettering DYNAMIC COIL cast with the plastic body. Not so.The Garrotts first P77 was the Cambridge based version with Weinz Parabolic. This was produced when Brian & John first started their re-ti...
Dynavector cartridges, old and new
The closest to no cantilever I know about would be the new Audio Technica ART1000, where the coils are just aft of the stylus tip. Has anyone here heard that one?On the contrary - the Art 1000 has quite a long cantilever.http://www.the-ear.net/rev...
Tonearm Suggestions For Technics Sp15 Under 5k
downunder1,264 posts05-29-2018 11:31pm@vinny55     what do you use the pitch control for?To listen to music. Most of us like to listen to music in time - so we can tap our feet along with the music. Some folk even enjoy having the pitch of notes...
Tonearm Suggestions For Technics Sp15 Under 5k
@vinny55 No worries. I had a Platine Verdier for 78's - but it got left for dead by both my Garrard 301 & an ancient Pioneer Broadcast Idler. The 301 has easy to use pitch control which is vital for 78's.
Advice on best match MC Cartidges for these tonearms
The problem you have is that adjusting the Ayre phono stage for gain ( MM or MC ) and load ( for MC's ) requires removing the lid and adjusting the phono inside the unit. Therefore ideally if using more than one turntable you would be best to pick ...
Tonearm Suggestions For Technics Sp15 Under 5k
It is not worth spending $5k on this turntable. For that money I would recommend buying a better turntable and spend less on the arm.On this forum alone you could buy a refurbished Garrard 301, PBN Groovemaster or VPI Super Scoutmaster Reference, ...
SAEC Making Tonearms Again!
SME V is a good comparator, because it too sports a knife-edge bearing and is similar in other ways. You gotta be kidding - no knife edge bearings in the SME V's I imported directly from SME all those years ago. If you think there are similarities ...
Old Gyrodec and some issues.. Analog Gurus Please chime in!!
@bensturgeonOn audiogon currently there is a Musical Surroundings Phenomena II for sale at $524 from the Music Room. This has adjustable gain and impedance. It has had good reviews and is almost certainly a decent step up from the Project. That wo...
Old Gyrodec and some issues.. Analog Gurus Please chime in!!
@bensturgeonThis is a very low output cartridge, I believe like .26 mV.Not correct, the output of the Talisman Virtuoso B is 1.8mv.This cartridge is designed to work into a MM phono stage with 47k load. I used to sell these in the 80's and they ma...
Phono stage gain too high??? Should I return it??
@tswei99 I DO have the LS27 set on LOW gain for the phono input, and configured that way the Phono has higher gain than the Digital which is also set on LOW.By changing the CD input to medium/high you can at least equalise the 2 inputs. Are you run...
Phono stage gain too high??? Should I return it??
The gain of the PH7 is fixed at 57.5db, which in my view is a bit high for a high output cartridge. However, on your LS27 line stage you can configure the gain for each input individually ( Low, medium, high). My suggestion would be to set the phon...
Fidelity Research FR-64x
@nandric Nandric, surprisingly I have never dismantled a FR64s.Dampening does not need to be provided by a lossy material such as rubber or grease. For example, if 2 different metals are joined together you can achieve bimetallic dampening. Exampl...
SME V Tonearm on eBay Hong Kong Sellers are FAKE!!!
@chakster The B60 replica in the you tube video is garbage.Compared to the original I have, the motion up and down of the pillar housing appears to be rattly, loose and wobbly. There is no way mine moves up and down that fast, clearly the toleranc...
Fidelity Research FR-64x
@sampsa55 For a point mass the moment of inertia I = mass x Radius ( distance from pivot ) squared. The further you push a weight out the moment of inertia increases disproportionately ( by the distance squared ).
Is a SUT needed?
@handymannYou might want to check the gain set up in your Theta - it is adjustable. Michael Fremer used 56db gain setting with the Dynavector XV1S when he tested the Theta, there is still another 20db available. The use of an SUT is debatable - you...
