Esoteric P-05 - D-05 - anbody use the word sync ??
Any 75 ohm pro audio BNC-BNC shielded video cable will work perfectly: Belden, Mogami, Canare, etc.The pros don't care much about six-nines copper and that sort of thing, but are very, very strict about getting impedances right.
Grace F-9 broken stylus
I concur 100% with Tommyboy65.I have three F9s, all with Soundsmith stylus assemblies. These are not cheap ($200 to $500), but worth it.The F9 with $300 Soundsmith stylus assembly chased a $600+ Ortofon 2M Black right out of my system. Several fri...
pre-amp vs dac straight to amps
mlapenta,I had to smile when I saw your post.My experience is exactly the opposite of yours: DAC direct to amps is more "transparent," has better detail, and smoothness—but, for me, it's through the preamp that has lots of bass punch and impact! (...
pre-amp vs dac straight to amps
No experience—yet—in computer-based audio, but I prefer using a preamp.First reason is a practical one: I have four source components, one each for CD, SACD, LP, and FM, so I need quick 'n' easy switching from one to the other.Second reason is tha...
Barefoot MM27 Active Speakers for Home Audio
Keithr,Good to read your comments, though I hope you're wrong about them not sounding optimal at 10-12 feet distance, because that's how I plan to use them! In any case, there's enough demand among professionals combined with a bottleneck in the s...
Barefoot MM27 Active Speakers for Home Audio
I've been impressed enough by comments from professional users that I've ordered a pair with the dedicated Sound Anchor stands. Don't know about other countries, but here in Canada it's a four-month waiting list, so I can expect take delivery in F...
Need a speaker for the blues lover...
Beernut,I strongly agree with Islandmandan's recommendation of the Tannoy System 12 DMT or System 12 DMT II or System 1200 (all very similar). Relatively compact cabinets (50 to 70 litres), the exceptional coherence of the dual concentric speaker ...
mogami interconnects
Had a long conversation with the Mogami distributor in California. I was quite surprised, because I only wanted 100 ft. of cable. Anyway, he liked telling stories.According to him, "most" studios use Mogami, but not the 2534. He says some years ag...
What's the oldest piece of gear in your system?
Three Technics SP-10MKII turntables, all dating from somewhere between late 1970s and early 1980s.A Grace 707-II tonearm dating from early 1980s.A Signet XK50 tonearm (early 1980s).Meitner PA6i preamp and MTR101 mono amps, all from circa 1988-92, ...
System worthy of XLR IC? If so, any recs?
As does Dopoque, I'd be surprised if you could tell the difference between RCAs and XLRs in your system unless you need very long runs (15 feet plus).
recommendations for upgrading Bryston BP-26
Interesting that the ML 380S came up as one of the recommendations. I auditioned one in my main system a year ago--a local vendor was kind enough to loan his 380S for the weekend. Listening to the 380S for an evening plus two full days reminded me...
Old Transpot or CDP and High-end DAC combination
I use a Teac VRDS 25 with a Lavry Black DA10 and a VRDS 25X with a Bryston BDA-1.I had both VRDS units extensively upgraded (power supply, Sample Rate converter opamps, and digital output board) with parts from ASE-Audiotuning in Germany. Plus, a ...
Where canI find adc that'll do 24/192 or 24/176.4?

Anyone using Tannoy System 215 DMT II at home?
Mike,Sorry for catching your note so late. Sorry--for you--that you're selling your System 15s. Fact is, I've used the System 15 DMT II for about five years and don't plan to sell mine. But I am also interested in acquiring a pair of the System 21...
Speakers for difficult placement.
Get a pair of Great Plains Audio 604-8H-II (or III) coaxials or a pair of Iconic 704-8A (same speaker) and build a pair of Mass Loaded Transmission Line cabinets for them; add the Jeff Markwart crossovers. All plans are available free for personal...
