Turntable got absolutely crushed by CD
The distinction between 'sound lovers' and 'music lovers' is totally artificial and not helpful at all. We can assume that the main reason for getting involved in this audio community is an interest in music. If not why bother? The other reason wo...
Turntable got absolutely crushed by CD
@rauliruegas Thanks for explaining AHEE. My guess wasn't too far off, was it?Do I understand you correctly when you imply that systems optimized for digital will also make analog sound better? Are you saying this because a digital source is suppos...
Turntable got absolutely crushed by CD
@rauliruegas I tried my best to follow your reasoning, but had a hard time catching its essence. It's no help that I don't know what AHEE means. It almost sounds like a conspiracy to hide the audio truth from us. The X-files of the high end? Surel...
Sony PS-X9
This quoka.de site often has very attractive offers and you know what they say when something is too good to be true..... I've been burnt there once, so buyer beware.I agree $14.0000 is a ridiculous price, but at the other extreme so is €2300, unl...
Turntable got absolutely crushed by CD
@rauliruegas I think I agree with much of what you’re trying to say, but your distinction between ’sound’ and ’music’ is not very helpful. Music is organized sound waves, there’s really no way around this. What you could say is this: recorded musi...
Looking for mc cartridge in $1000-$1500 range.
It is unclear if the OP (which I believe stands for Original Poster) requires the cartridge to be new or if NOS and/or previously 'cherished' would also apply. For used there are plenty of contenders in this price range, you only  have to find the...
Kuzma/Koetsu feedbak??
I've owned a Clearaudio Master Solution from the clear acrylic episode, equipped with magnetic bearing, Synchro PSU and Unify tonearm. It was a nice looking and reliable table, but its performance was held back considerably by that tonearm. This b...
Cartridge new or used ?
Boy, first 'used underwear', now 'used food'....... You guys really have a deeply felt disgust towards used cartridges. As far as I'm concerned this is the preferred mainstream opinion: by all means stay away from used cartridges! Less competitors...
Cartridge new or used ?
@clearthink, Your analogy of 'used underwear' smells a bit funny and frankly makes no sense. Stylus wear from normal use is very gradual, so with previously owned 'modern' cartridges the risk of damaging your records is negligable. It seems to me ...
Dynavector cartridges, old and new
This thread made me curious to try one of the Dynavectors and I managed to pick up a Karat 23RS in 'as new' condition for 300 euros. Judging by its visual condition I seriously doubt it has ever been used, so it may need some playing time to settl...
What is the best 5k-plus Preamp with balanced outs and Phono stage?
The recently discontinued Boulder 1010 would perfectly fit your description: an all balanced preamp with a very nice phono stage. I operate a three tonearm turntable setup and also use the Boulder 1008 phono amp, which has two MM/MC inputs. You mi...
Do 45 rpm 12" LPs really sound better than 33 rpm?
@daveyf There has been a lot of discussion about the MM reissues (either in 2x45rpm or 33.3rpm) versus the RVG originals. The issue will never be resolved, because they are sonically so far removed it's almost like comparing different recordings.I...
Do 45 rpm 12" LPs really sound better than 33 rpm?
@daveyf I was typing while you made your comments. So you did make the 2x45rpm versus 33.3rpm comparison of the MM reissues. Results are again inconclusive as they changed their hardware to master the 33.3 version. I didn't know this, so my sugges...
Do 45 rpm 12" LPs really sound better than 33 rpm?
Perhaps there's a valid comparison to tape machines operating at different speeds. Higher tape speed means more 'headroom', as in more length of tape to enscribe the same signal. Likewise on vinyl  higher speed rotation and more space between the ...
Another favorite cartridge vanishes.. Dynavector 17D3. GONE! replaced..
Tanks for the advise, but I want to indulge myself in a history lesson first with one of the Karats. If that 'house' sound appeals to me I might consider going for their top contender. But never at retail price! BTW, this XV-1S must also be a seri...
