How to respond to those who say it's not a hobby?
Some good advice above. I especially liked Matt8268's recommendations-- and Rosstaman's humor;>)My wife and I are not rich by any means, but we have separate checking accounts and this has undoubtedly prevented many wicked marital battles. Audi...
Platforms: granite, marble, maple or other?
Jdombrow; The McCormack amps all have large soft Sorbothane feet, and I now have the amp sitting directly on the maple board (spike not used), but I use-- and recommend-- Rcreations cork/rubber footers under the maple block. Cheers. Craig
Platforms: granite, marble, maple or other?
Jafox; A good statement. The best way to explain my observations re audio, is actually by comparing it to a TV watching experience. When the TV color balance is very slightly to the green side of neutral, viewing is vaguely unpleasant or even irrit...
Platforms: granite, marble, maple or other?
Jafox; you're apparently a non-believer when it comes to vibration control/management, and I won't try to convince you here. I've already briefly stated the improvements I got using the maple board under my amp and stand by them. There was no need...
Platforms: granite, marble, maple or other?
I can't comment on the speakers, but I just put a 15' X 20" X 2.25" thick maple cutting board under my McCormack DNA-0.5 Gold Rev. amp, and 1" thick cork/rubber footers from Rcreations (an A'Gon member) under the maple board. It's excellent w/ goo...
Cowboy Junkies Fans-- new recording
Hi David; 10 tracks (songs) have been released on other CDs and are well known, but as noted, different and interesting versions to Junkies fans. The 2 new tracks are just as good as their other music, and I don't remember them being on promo disc...
Power Conditioners vs. Power Cables
I've gone with dedicated AC lines, good quality outlets, and then good quality power cords. If your amp(s) isn't too big, and you can't go to dedicated outlets, then a power conditioner would make sense to me. Many inexpensive power conditioners c...
What Instrument do You Play?
Although I've played guitars off and on-- both acoustic and electric-- for over 40 years, I do not consider myself a musician, ie no professional work. I play mostly classic R&R, some blues, and some C/W. I play my stereo system much better th...
Any photography experts out there?
Indoor photos w/o flash often need long shutter speeds so use a tripod (or other stable support) to get a sharp pics-- even with good lighting a tripod is beneficial. Craig
Audio CD-R's versus regular CD-R's?
Music CD-Rs have SCMS copy protection encoded in the disc so a copy cannot be made of the copy, and "consumer grade" CD burners can only use this type of CD-R. This is why SCMS CD-Rs are more expensive. Pro CD burners and computer CD burners can u...
Can I get suggestions for a tube preamp please?
The Sonic Frontiers Line 1 has all the features you want and is available for
What music have you been buying lately?
......just picked up "A Tribute to Johnny Cash"-- songs by some really unexpected artists, eg Dylan, Springsteen, and I think my favorite is Keb Mo' doing his version of "Folsom Prison Blues". And Little Richard does "Get Rhythm"-- many C/W artist...
Where does your user name come from?
I seem to have missed the start of this thread. .......nothing too original-- Garland is my last name and in college I was often called "Gar" or "Garfish". So it was just a nickname from long ago that I sort of liked-- brings back fond memories. B...
$2000 CDP for Rock Music????
Boingo; don't sell your speakers short-- the PSB Goldi(s) are excellent speakers that can boogie-- good bass, smooth and non-fatiguing. They will reveal what they are fed, IMO. Cheers. Craig
What digital cable between levinson 360s and 37?
I have the 37/360S combo and much prefer the Cardas AES/EBU to the very analytic Madrigal MDC-1. I agree with Rives that the Cardas is a little soft in the bass, but it is also very musical in all other respects, and after I tried it I quit lookon...
