What is the difference between a FM Broadcast Receiver and a FM Broadcast Decoder?
usually when the word receiver is used its referring to the ability to receive the FM signal decode (de modulate) preamp-amplify and output the speaker level signal.so for listening onlyAntenna-FM receiving section and decoder ( or FM de-modulator...
Help with phono amp upgrade
I would recommend you try IFI's new power supply with your Ifi Iphono. I had the Iphono2 and it is quite a bit better then the original. Really hard to beat for anything less then $1000. The new power supply is not very expensive well under $100 a...
Does it make sense to retip vdH Grasshopper cartridge
As for Stylast, my VDH manual actually says to use it every side. Stylast is a lubricant not cleaner. I also agree with chakster, if you send your VDH cart to lets say sound smith you will not get the VDH stylus cut but something different also ...

When do you turn off the tubes?
Always turn off tube amps when not in use or near future use. No reason to leave them on they voltage stabilize within mins and with the heaters warm up in 10 mins or less. really not worth the tube wear or power use if not going to be used in the...
the Garrard 301 plater is concaved.
Of course I read quite a bit about the Garrard tables and never came across anything about the plinth being concave. really I posted this for some of us that didn't know but also as a funny post of my set up mistake, as human we all do them from t...
the Garrard 301 plater is concaved.
everything I ready prior to my posting said it was a design feature, I was just surprised to find it in a table designed in the 50's.  The old Garrard's were better designed then I originally thought, well at least included some modern thinking.
the Garrard 301 plater is concaved.
I usually use both a long and a short I just got a new bubble and was trying it out. Didn't know the Garrard plater was concave always figured it was flat seems I was wrong haha. more funny then anything how we can make a simple mistake and have y...
DC Offset Blocker/Killer - where to buy in the USA
I did not read the whole thread so sorry if this was addressed. doesn't  Mac use transformers for coupling? so maybe there is only one power transformer that's why only one is humming. The others could be for coupling.
Luxman Integrated - What do they sound like
I owned an older version of those amps the L560 Japanese version. for about a year and I can tell you what I liked about it. The L560 was a 50wpch pure class A amp made in 1985. I ran it on my Living Voice speakers. The L560 was a surprise to be h...
Gryphon Integrated or Seperates for $20K Pre/Power budget?
I'm not sure where you are in western Canada but I'm In Victoria BC and there are quite a few really good dealers in Vancouver and Victoria then there is many more just south of the boarder in Seattle and surrounding areas. Also we have a small gr...
***Going Insane***End Game Speakers***Harbeth Verity or Living Voice***
I’ve been living with some Living Voice Avatar 2’s upgraded to the current drivers for about 2 years now. They are very finicky to placement and really cannot be stuck too close to the back wall, side wall or in a corner to far. But if you have th...
How long should Pre amp (12au7) tubes last in Rogue Preamp?
I've pulled small signal tubes out of 70 year old radios / equipment that were still working. really depends on like others said how hard they are run also the quality of the tube.  IMO, NOS tubes tend to last much longer then their new counterpar...
