Headphones? I could use your experience/thoughts.
I would get Grado SR225, $100 more but much better, this is Grado's best value, after that you jump straight to $700 RS-1. Yeah, headphone amp too, there are some for about $100.
How often do you have to service your Studer or Otari deck ? Home not pro environment.
captain_winters, thank you. I don't have open reel deck yet, this is my future project and it will take time. I am just gathering information and opinions regarding what might be involved in using those pro machines. Otari is more likely for me th...
Best CDs
Good cd on good player should not sound "awful", something is definitely wrong. Unless you have zero tolerance for digital, then nothing will help.CEC belt drive players definitely do not sound awful, even 20 years old. I rarely play cds, though.
What are the weak points of Pass amps and pre-amps ?
Are Pass amps somewhat 'lazy', not quite fast and dynamic enough ?
Stage III Concepts Cables - Any Advice/Feedback/Thoughts is deeply appreciated.
I am at a much lower level of performance, power cord on my Redgum integrated cost new more that the integrated. I bought both used and paid about the same for each. My speaker cables cost new exactly the same as speakers, and my main interconnect...
What is your approach to system fine tuning with cables and cords ?
Yeah, tuning the room with normal or almost normal items can be rewarding. Unfortunately, there is not much I can do, it is a living room. But I am lucky, acoustics is acceptable, and I mostly listen near field so it’s not a major thing. Putting P...
Stage III Concepts Cables - Any Advice/Feedback/Thoughts is deeply appreciated.
In certain serious audiophile circles, outside Audiogon, where cost is rarely a consideration, three cable brands are most often thought of the most highly - Purist Audio Design, Stage III Concepts and Echole. I am only familiar with Purist, but I...
What are the weak points of Pass amps and pre-amps ?
Where does Pass stand in comparison with Clayton and class AB Rowlands ?
Will a subwoofer add depth and clarity to my system, or just bass?
The best thing about subs is that you don't need them when your speakers are good. And if they are not good - replace them. And don't forget good source, electronics and cables.
What is your approach to system fine tuning with cables and cords ?
We can go in all directions. One of them is how you musically match cartridge and speakers. After all, it is the beginning and the end of the signal. Tuning and fine tuning the listening room is a big subject, of course.
Help with a suggestion for using audio equipment in extremely humid climate conditions
I wouldn't worry about it. If it sounds good to you - get that. If and when something wrong happens - throw it away and get new equipment. Unless you are talking about expensive equipment - then have it fixed. Much depends on your income. People w...
What is your approach to system fine tuning with cables and cords ?
Elizabeth, I am glad that you get the message.I will add only this, just in case that I might be right, at least to a degree. Speakers, any speakers, should sing not scream.
What is your approach to system fine tuning with cables and cords ?
Elizabeth, that's certainly tuning, though not what I would call fine tuning. First, you pursue clarity more than anything and this might make it one track tuning. I think, all elements of sonic presentation should be equally addressed, starting w...
What is your approach to system fine tuning with cables and cords ?
I didn't say great, I said "quite good". If it sounds great then you are right - time to build a new system.Nor did I exactly ask for an advice, I asked about other people's ideas and experience.Power cords might be first, by the way, especially o...
Whats the deal?
I choose none of the above. Great sounding speakers will not be too ugly, at least to me.
