Alternatives to Dunlavy speakers?
John Dunlavy told me a couple years ago that if he was not a speaker deigner he would buy Thiel. I tend to agree, they have alot of the same sound, but I'm sticking with the IVa's I have. I wish I had some extra money, this would be a great time t...
help with harshness / brightness - cary 303-100
In that the Well Tempered is fine I doubt it's the room. I would try some other cd players before trying cables, this may help narrow the options
the Listening Room
GLASS, always a problem.High frequency glare and fatigue.Deep bass with good imaging. These have tended to be my issues and solving them has taken a lot of trial and error with both room and equipment modifications. A consultant who could give me a...
Bob Bundus was wrong.
Speaking of Watergate. Nixon used Wattgate outlets too. If you listen to the tapes the detail and soundstage depth is amazing!
Custom Build Listening Room
Rives has proved to me to be extremely knowledgeable and has devoted a great deal of time to this site helping people like yourself. I would look at his site as a start and consider using his services. You have a good size space to start with, the...
Attention: Dunlavy Audio Labs out of business
John Dunlavy was the heart a soul of the Dunlavy speaker. When he left, it was only a matter of time before the reputation fell and the company closed. It was a very sad day in the audio industry when one of the top designers retired, but that is ...
Aquariums and Audio Equipment
I have had reef aquariums for 15 years and marine fish for ten prior to that. The issues I have had in those years are two. First noise, I would have a hard time with the noise in my present 400 gal. reef. The sump is in the basement and the tank ...
Review: Dunlavy Audio Labs SC-IVa
Snook2 is right, they do take a big effort to get placement right. Once the proper location is found they are great. I set them up on the long wall, and they really need at least 18 feet of long wall as a minimum. I think 28x23 or so would be perf...
amps for dunlavy sc4
I've used Aloia, Rowland, Levinson, Pass in solid state, Kora, Air Tight, Cary in tubes and three different models of Plinius. The Plinius is a fantastic match with the Dunlavy III's, IV and IVa's.
Equipment Break-in: Fact or Fiction
I feel so badly that so many remain so naive. I guess some people will simply never know the truth, or simply refuse to except it. I does surprise me that people so ill informed would chose to take such passionate positions on things they obviousl...
Why "splay" walls 4 custom listening room design?
Clueless, I too remain clueless as to who (if anyone) actually knows the facts. Here are some random thoughts based on my personal observations and quite a bit of research and continuing education. Buildings react to the low base signals in what I...
SACD BREAKING-IN EXPERIENCE................
Ben, I believe the differences between SACD and redbook after modifying my SCD-1 did indeed become less noticeable. The redbook is so good now that it's very close on initial listening. There are differences still. Better and smoother extension wi...
SACD BREAKING-IN EXPERIENCE................
Hi Ben,My experience was the two formats both required 400 hours of burn in each. I was assuming it was due to the laser, but I may be wrong. The break-in was gradual. For a full depth explaination of what I heard, look at my SCD-1 review after mo...

Review: Neuance Alpha & Beta shelf / Apollo Aria 455 rack Stand
Hi Greg,The EAR feet would not be a great match for 50 lbs, so your thoughts are going in the right direction. Simply experiment to find a solution that works. I never found a footer that worked better than the stock "very well designed" Sony foot...
