Amps for Egglestonworks Andra II or Sophia 2
I've had good and bad luck in my room with *both* auditioned and unheard equipment. Lot's of us around here take chances without listening first: doesn't have to be a disaster if the piece is in demand enough, or the price you get is low enough, t...
Music for testing equipment speakers, headphones..
I think one might well learn from a detailed list like the above, with notes as to what other are hearing for comparison. But what Zd said deserves emphasis: at moderate (and even not so moderate) pricepoints, it is difficult to craft a system that...
who has the best recommended product reviews
I enjoy John Atkinson. Good bit of the techie measurement stuff over my head, but he gives reasons for his judgments, and is not afraid to disagree with other reviewers and be (somewhat) critical.I'm not in the "audio mags suck" camp; they are ent...
DeVore Orangutan 96 an upgrade over DeVore 9?
Have not lived with them but have heard both. I'd be rather surprised if you didn't find the 96 a considerable upgrade over the 9. IME, the 93 comes pretty close to the 96, and I would chose it over the 96 on grounds of bang fer buck.John
DIY Stereo Rack
Below is a thread about building a rod and block rack to which many people, including Timrhu, contributed.Mine is in maple; I note, with amazement and dismay, that it's been almost ten years. In contrast to its builder, the rack has held up just f...
Bookshelf Speakers with the decent bass
The Fritz Carbon 7s would be an excellent choice, for way less than 4k. Fritz is a great guy to talk to as well.I think Jl35 is right to wonder if you should consider more amp, if you are willing to go 4k on speakers. You might well be able to det...
Sold in one day
When I sell, which is not that often, I tend to go well under market, and have several times sold nice pieces for what the 'Gon bluebook indicates is an all time low. I want a quick sale, and I want the buyer, if at all possibble, to be a very hap...
Sold in one day
Anyone else notice a lot of ambitious pricing these days? Eg, second owners asking 80% of retail ("easily a 10") for electronics that are several years old. Or is the used market especially strong?
Speakers sonically similar to Sonus Faber?
Selah and Fritzspeakers both make models that fill your bill, I'd think: comparatively relaxed speakers, which is how I think of the SFs I've heard. For that money, you could also find the Montana EPS2 used, another non-fatiguing, musical speaker t...
Multiple "sales" of EAR 324?
"But then again, if they were bright they probably would set their sights higher than $1,000 pieces of hi-fi gear."I wonder about this. Hard to see how there could be much money in it. At the same time, they know or research enough to pick high in...
PS Audio Perfect Wave MK II vs. McIntosh D100
I agree that PWDII a big improvement over DLIII; I had both in my house.PSA might not be the best equipped company to support customers with software issues of the sort that come up with computer audio; my experience was dismal. For this reason, I ...
Multiple "sales" of EAR 324?
Jmcgrogan2 =1No feedback + amazing price = look elsewhere, especially for more expensive and in demand items.Another tell is short or generic ad text combined with the above. If you see stuff like this, please do report it. Agon can sort it out if ...
Another UPS Horror Story
Don't know that FedEx is wonderful, Ebm, but I've never had an issue with them.I had UPS damage an amp, and the claim went down a black hole.As Grannyring notes, a dock to dock shipper like Pilot or BAX may be the way for larger items -- I did thi...
Can't get Acoustic Zen Adagios to sound smooth
I'd still sleep with a piece of rebar by the bed, Jl35! ;)
Can't get Acoustic Zen Adagios to sound smooth
Be careful Jl35, the Vandersteen Walkers are coming for you!
